Lebanon,Mo-The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour rolled on with the first visit for the series to the beautiful Midway Speedway in Lebanon, MO. When the smoke cleared a familiar face found his way to the winner's circle as Al Purkey picked up his third win of the season leading all forty laps.

Purkey started on the pole with CJ Lyle to his outside and the pair raced off into turn one only to have the pace slowed for a multiple car accident that included seven cars for what would be the only caution period. The field raced to the restart with Purkey jumping to the front, but on his tail was a field of hungry competitors looking to make his time at the front short lived. CJ Lyle and Alan Vaughn waged battle for the runner up position with Vaughn making the most of the high side and setting sail after Purkey. Running on a rail Purkey was able to hold the top spot throughout the event to lead the entire event with Vaughn holding on for second and Lyle in third. Leslie Essary raced home in the fourth position with David Turner rounding out the top five.
The Action and battling for second through 5th kept the croed on the edge on there seats all night with Alan Vaughn working the high-side,then low through the lapped traffic.
Back a little farther in the pack,Leslie Essay,David Turner and Shane Essary were wagging war running high and low.
"I realy like this place,"quoted winner Al Purkey,"I gotta admit noone really knew what to expect coming in here, but I tip my hat to the entire crew here-Mr.Armstrong really prepared a wonderful track tonight especially after running there normal Friday Night show last night with over 100 cars on it.This place is pretty neat."
Runner-up Alan Vaughn really wanted a late caution,"I needed it badly and would have liked to try Al in a 5 lap shoot-out.The high groove was working for me really good, and the track was very racy tonight and smooth.I can't wait until we come back here in Aug.because this is just a sample of what to expect.
The race had only 1 caution on the opening lap as Danny Atkinson,Sonny Findling,Tony Jackson Jr,Reggie Jackson, and David Barker all tangled in turn 1.after that the feature went green, white checkered. All involved were able to continue.
In Support action,Tony Jackson,Jr grabbed the early lead from his front row starting spot after a hard battle with Donnie Gennings to grab the SuperStock/Sportsman class.Jody saultz and JC Newell battled back and forth in the race for the runner-up spot.
The FactoryStock feature would see Lebanon's Ron Myers go from zero to hero as Ron had the front row for the Friday Night show, but engine problems took him out before starting. From there Myers led all 15 laps in capturing his first win of the season as point leader Randy Berry was able to recover from an opening lap spin to grab runner-up spot followed closely by Bobby Ratterree,Glen Dismang and Travis Hill.
The Bombers put on another wonderful feature as Justin Stoufer finally shook the bad luck gremlins in recording his third win of the season.Points runner-up Missy Shaw fought hard al night long in grabbing the runner-up spot as Mike Piercey,Bill Roberts, and John Morgan rounded out the top 5.
Action continues on the Midway Friday Night July 1st as the skies will light-up with a special Fireworks show during the intermission break as all 6 classes continue the points battle with SuperStock/Sportsman,Modifieds,FactoryStocks,Bombers,Winged Sprints, and Mini-stocks with the gates opening at 5 while racing itself will start at 8PM.No increase in admission for the grandstands on Friday Night.
