Should all drinking be banned from the pit area??? And if you are found to be in violation of this be kicked out for the night for the first violation and then suspended indefinately for a second violation?? This is an issue that is coming and coming quick. What do you think??

Interesting question...

Do you mean that drinking will be banned from the pits ALL TOGETHER...after the races are over for the evening???? WOW!!!! This issue should really cause quite a stir. Personally, I don't feel that it should be banned from the pits after the racing program is over. This is the time when the drivers, crews, fans, friends, etc. stand around and talk and have a few drinks. I don't see a problem with that...they are adults who have this right. This is their time to relax for the evening and just kick back...and if they choose to have a drink, that's their choice. This topic should be interesting. I'm just curious what others will have to say.

Banned from the pits till the races are over by all means that is a normal no no anyway. That's one reason why I like sitting in the stands.
Now after the races I say you have lost the last brain cell we sent you !!!!!
Besides if you made that rule you might lose some people to other tracks. After the races is one of the best parts about racing!!!!!

I agree. Once the checkered flag has fallen on the final race, I see no reason why the racers, crew, families, and friends can't have a couple beers. But while the races are occurring, I believe there are too many instances where someone could get hurt. Granted, the majority of people in the pits know enough not to get trashed, but there's always that one person who takes it too far, gets hurt, and then the public backlash against the track for allowing booze in the pits begins.

okay... here goes.. i would be willing to bet i get little support on this, but, while on racetrack property, and that includes the parking lot afterwards, you are subject to racetrack rules. if they say no alchoholic beverages, then that's it. all it takes is 1 moron to kill or injure someone driving home while over the limit, and the track could be held liable. same as a bar could be held liable if the person got drunk there. if a person gets drunk in the stands, the track is definitely liable. they can somewhat control that by not selling any more to a person that is obviously had too much. they cannot control the afterwards drinking except to forbid it. it will happen, people. only a matter of time.

First, what started this thread?
For the tracks that allow adults beverages after the races, they have the better crowds. It is always a better time in the pits after the races to have a drink or so. Go to Mt. Vernon and see what happens to the pits after the races there. No one stays in the pits and that is not good for the fans. For the other tracks, the drivers stay and the fans can talk with the drivers.
Most people can control themselves and there normally is not a problem. Yes, there are the exceptions, but normally they are few and far between. Some place may have a problem, but for the most part most don't. I don't think it is a good idea to ban it.

jpugh..i disagree..sorry. You said..most people..but then you get the idiots..who've had a bad day..or..just there to get in a fight..and bam..instant problem. Did you hear..what happened at Godfrey..after the races..when the drinking started?? It was caos..and good thing noone went to jail. People act ignorant if they know they got ones to back them up at a race track..and let the alcohol give them bigger cahoonas. Keep the drinking out of the pits..period..wanna drink..local establishments everywhere to do that..keep it away from the people who are there..to have a nice..good easy going time.

Yeah, But think if you got rid of most (not all) of the drinking. and just drinking when the races are over...you probaly wouldnt have all the fights that you usually do. Cuz when you drink it doesnt take much to make somone mad... Some people have diffrent reactions to drinking though. Some people can have a good time when they are drinking without starting fights, and some people drink and get stupid and go out looking for a fight.

does this make any sense??

During The Races.... Yes! I Thought That Was A Rule At Every Track. Is There One That Allows It During Racing? If So Thats Crazy!! People Get High Strung And Tense Enough While Racing. Alcohol Would Be A Bad Mix. I Definitely Hope There Is No Dummy Racing Under The Influence.

After The Races...... No! I'm Sure There Have Been Problems Here And There At Some Tracks. Honestly, I Have Not Seen Any Where I Go(belle-clair - I55). If There Has Been I Missed It. There Are Going To Be Bad Apples From Time To Time. But, For The Most Part And The Majority Of Us Are Just Looking To Socialize And Unwind After Of Long Week Of Work And Hard Racing!!!!!

i think that we are all adult enough to not get stupid with it beer is a part of racing its been there since racing started yeah i will admitt it people get stupid in the pits after the races especcially with beer mixxed in them but dont throught out beer in racing thats like SAY RUBINGS NOT RACING just throught out the dumb @$$es that6 get to stupid with it if u ask me when people put in a good 40 hour week or more they wanna have some beer after the races in the pits let them but the security/police need to be able to say when someone is being to stupid and going over to another crews spot to start something the cops need to be there a little bit faster if you dont let them drink in the pits after the races they will be drinking outside of the fence but if someone is found drinking while the races are going on that is a totally different story for the first time they are out for 1 night of racing second 5 nights of racing and they 3 time they are gone for the year and on the 4 time out for life which it shouldnt ever get that far JUST LET THE PEOLE DRINK IN THE PIT AFTER THE RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of the fights I have seen after the races have been sober people!!! The drivers and their crews and their wives going into other peoples pits and calling them names and getting stuff started.... :( :( Then someone has bigger cahoonas then the approachers and BOOM!!!! But no alcohol is involved in those!!! Just attitudes bigger than their inflated egos ... Yep that is where it usually starts the people that stay and hang out and drink are not the fighters for the most parts. I am with drifter I have not seen anything like this at the 2 tracks mentioned especially at 2 or 3 in the morning!!! Besides if there was no drinking then the mask would not come out!!!!! :(

Too Too many times have I seen guy's down 3-4 or more beers after a show then crawl into their hauler and head down the road. Ban drinking ? I'm not sure,
Drinking at the track probally does put that track at risk for a liability suit, Banning alchohol would cause one hell of an uproar on these boards and some moaning in the stands and pits BUTTTTTT theres no way you can tell me that it would cause race teams or race fans not to go to the races, no way !!!!!
But if it did stop ya from goin, all I can say is, if drinking is that important to ya having a good time, then ya need help.....

We have designated drivers in our group!!! 2 of them.... I have been driven home many of nights because my better half says get in the truck you aint driven I say okie dokie and off we go !!!!!! And Chris has Rocky to drive him so the main drunks are taken care of!!!!! :D LOL!!!!! And for the record neither one of the designated drink at all ....... And Gus always gages when we leave as to what time it is.... Are the bars letting out? Are the Denny's done feeding the drunks? Are they home yet? Okay we can go!!!! That is the main reason we are always the last to leave if not the next to last !!!!!

I Am Not Saying Drinking Is Why I Go Or Won't Go If You Couldn't. But, It Is A Part Of It. I Don't Go To A Bar Just To Drink Either. When I Go To A Bar, I Go To Socialize And Usually Where There Is Music Of Some Sort Or A Sporting Event Of Some Kinda Going On. In Either Case, It Just A Part Of It I Enjoy Also. A Part I Hope Isn't Done Away With Because Some Childish People Can't Act Like A Grown Up And Do It Responsibly. Like I Said Its Just Part Of The Package. If All I Was Concered About Was Drinking, I Would Stay Home And Drink Myself Into A Stuper!

I personally think it's like any situation where drinking is allowed. HOWEVER, when that same person thinks he or she should then be allowed to sit behind the wheel of a car or (as previously mentioned) a car hauler then that's when the line should be drawn. The old designated driver rule should apply. One of the situations I had become disturbed with over the past couple of years was hearing (and in some cases seeing) drivers drinking in the pits and then climbing into their race cars. At one of the tracks I work with drinking is a very bad problem and new measures have now been implemented for next season to ease the problem. Hopefully things will get better.

Dirtgirl, it sounds like your group is something special. It's great to see people wanting to insure that not only can they have fun, but they are thinking ahead enough so they can live to tell about it...! One of these days I've got to meet you. P.S., Racewidow says "hi."

IMPLEMENT THAT THEY TAKE A HIKE FOR A LONG TIME!

IT REALLY BOILS DOWN TO ADULTS BEING ADULTS. AS WE KNOW THOUGH IN EVERY SUTIATION DRINKING OR NOT, SOME PEOPLE CAN'T DO THAT.

All local law enforcements would love to see the drinking go away.all together at a race..but..people like to drink..and be happy...fine. but it impairs everything you do..and no..you shouldnt drink..1 glass..during a show..if you are in the pit area. What you do there..could not only hurt you..but..it could hurt others. If caught doing so..just like the fighting b.s. byebye! Wanna play those games..find an empty lot..charge admission..whatever you wish..and do it their..not on a property that has to keep a whopping amount of insurance just too keep it afloat. Not to mention..track liability if something does happen. Not to mention..if the cops get called to a race track during an event..or afterwards..a report is made..panel reviews if this could have been done differently..and then said officers meet with the track. Ask Wente..he got several visits from the local authorities to review events that happened at the track..most which yep..involved alcohol. So..no excuse..shouldnt drink..period during an event..while in the pits. Cant contan yourself for 4 to 5 hours..stay home. I worked at a local towing company for 6 yrs..and ive seen it all from drunk incidents. People always say..hey..its cool..MOST can handle it..but..but..its that 1 ,,2,,or 3 people that cant..and cause the problems. go to a MADD meeting..if you dont beleive me. Not to mention the memories i have of pulling dui cars from a wreck..seeing the devatation and heartbreak cause because 1 or several people were having some FUN. If you tell an insrance company that you will allow drinking during an event..canellation highway you go...no grey area there. And like i said.just like the Godfrey incident..get rid of the alcohol..let people mingle.have little fun after the races...but keep it clean. Remember..there are KIDS walking around all over after the races too.

I Repect Everyone's Opinon On This Matter. But, Like I Said Before, I'm Definitely Against It In The Pits During The Race Program. But, Not A Ban From The Track All Together.

Drinking And Driving Is And Has Been A Problem For A Long Time And As Long As Alcohol Is Sold It Always Will Be.

If A Ban On Alcohol Is Going To Be Put In Place, Start With The Bigger Contributors To The Problem.

Bars And Night Clubs!
Concerts!
Sporting Events!
Restaurants Who Sell Alcohol!
Casinos!
Just To Name A Few. These Places Add To The Problem Year Round. Not Just Friday And Saturday Nights 6-7 Months A Year.

But, I Think The Original Question Was Asked "in The Pit Area" Do To Possible Problems At The Track.

Most Definitely During The Program. But Afterwards I Think No. If People Can Drink In The Stands Then Come Down Into The Pits Afterwards Whats Would Be The Difference.

I've seen very little irresponsible drinking in the pits, but it does surprise me to hear that a track allowed drinking during racing.

for the most part, racers do a pretty good job of keeping their group in line. like i said in my post, all it takes is 1 moron to create a bad deal because he or she didn't use common sense and good judgement. saw a commercial for one of those ambulance chasing lawyers on tv,and they said that a crash involving a drunk driver wasn't an accident.... it was bad judgement. that sums it up pretty good, i thought. with all the lawsuits and insurance regulations and such in todays world, i can really see this happening (banning alchoholic beverages).
