Could a decent flat top piston engine with a good roller cam, intake, and carb do well up against domed piston engine in the modified class? Im new at this and would like your opinion.
If it could what would your choice of intake, carb combo be? And is there one out there for sell to a beginner. Thanks in advance

If you have good heads with small combustion chambers ae. 40cc or less your will be fine with the flat tops. You need 13 to 1 compression or more. If it's your first year in a mod you'll do ok, consentrate on the handleing first then worry about getting the big horsepower. Have seen many a driver that had the monster motor and could not get out of his own way. Heck some of those flattop sportsman motors at highland would be more than enough in a mod lol

If thats the only place your lacking than its not a big deal, if you have good ported and matched heads, and a descent alky four barrell. But if your talking like stock crank and rods, that would be a bigger deal. Even if it is you will survive, you will just have to gear accordingly. I have seen a $2500 550 horse motor smoke a $15000 700 horse motor. If this is your first experience in a mod, the less the better, anything with 4 barrell and alky will make 500 horse. And as dry as these tracks get, youd be surprised how many seconds the pace actually slows down come feature time. I can tell you personally that the two times I ran with the A mods this year I had on my 2 barrell making probably 450 horse at the most, and wet or dry more in the dry I was able to keep up with some names that might surprise you, that definately had the big,big motors. Hook up the small motor before you try more.
