Quincy Raceways opened the 2004 racing season Sunday night with a great night of racing action under a full moon. Mark Burgtorf, Vance Wilson, Gary Dreyer and Eddie Dieker all resumed their winning ways by taking the checkered flags in feature events.

Burgtorf drew the #1 chip to start from the pole position and led all 30 laps of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event. It was not all that easy of a win as the eleven time track champion held of a furious charge from Rob Toland over the last few laps of the main event. Toland chose the high line to close in on Burgtorf after a late race caution closed up the entire field. Toland pulled to the outside of Burgtorf and appeared like he was going to take the lead but going into the third turn on the 28th circuit, Toland slid high over the banking and came to a stop to bring out the yellow flag to end his chances for the win. Burgtorf then settled in on the restart and held on to take the non points race win. Second went to Boone McLaughlin followed by Lonnie Bailey, Denny Woodworth and Matt Strassheim. Strassheim, Woodworth and Terry Schlipman grabbed the win in the heat races with Lonnie Bailey taking the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Vance Wilson of Bowling Green, Mo. took the main event win in the Miller Lite A-Modified division. Wilson took the early lead in the 20 lapper but Henry Delonjay climbed his way to the top of the field about half way through the 20 lap event with Brandon Lennox hot on his heals. Lennox made contact with Delonjay going into turn one on the 15th lap sending Delonjay spinning to a stop bringing out the caution and sending both cars to the rear of the field on the restart. Wilson then cruised to the win with Michael Long challenging but settling for second. Robby Warner, Ryan Meyer and David Weitholder rounded out the top 5 spots. Keith Pratt and Warner took the heat race wins with Delonjay taking the win in the P and S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

Gary Dreyer made his return to the B- Modifieds look like a wise decision as he took the 20 lap main event win. Dreyer and Wyatt Lance put on a great dual over the closing laps with both drivers leading laps as the race drew to a close. Dryer made his last pass stick on the 18th lap and held off Lance for the win. Jim Leffew, Tony Dunker and Wes Mayfield rounded out the top five with Joe Hooper and Dreyer taking the checkered flags in the heat races.

Eddie Dieker looks like he may be still the man to beat in the Bomber division as he took his first feature win of the year. Joe Mickels started out his 2004 racing season just as he did in 2003 as he flipped his number 13 car coming off of turn 2. Mickels was unhurt in the spectacular looking accident. Dieker claimed the win over Jeff Delonjay in second, Adam Birch in third, Travis Booher in fourth and Brandon Wear in fifth. Steve Carlin, Dieker and Birch were the heat race winners.

Quincy Raceways continues the 2004 season on Easter Sunday with Swim Suit Night at the races. Gates open at 4, Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing action starting at 6:30pm.
