Conley, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, racked up his fifth feature win of the 2017 racing season on Saturday evening, September 16 in the annual 'Bob Crace Memorial' at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio! R.J. posted the third fastest lap during the qualifying session prior to winning his heat race in preliminary action. R.J. then grabbed the point from his brother Rod Conley on the sixth circuit and drove to victory in the 25-lapper to score the $3,023 payday ahead of Tyler Carpenter, Rod Conley, Jackie Boggs, and Jason Montgomery. "Hot Rod" also won his heat race at the southern Ohio venue prior to leading early in the feature and leaving Atomic with a strong podium effort.
Delmas Conley - the patriarch of the racing Conley family - took his #71 operation to the nearby Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on Saturday night for a $2,000 to win weekly Super Late Model program. After struggling early in the evening, Delmas unloaded a back-up car before the start of the A-Main. The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer then stormed all the way up to the second spot during the headliner before a fuel line came off, which caught his XR1 Rocket Chassis on fire. Delmas escaped injury, but was done for the night and was forced to settle for a twelfth place performance at PRP. Rod will travel to Ohio Valley Speedway in Lubeck, West Virginia on Saturday for a $5,000 to win shootout, while Delmas is slated to sling dirt at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio in a weekly Super Late Model show that boasts a $2,000 paycheck.
