Race for the 2009 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Championship Comes to Utica-Rome, Winche

CORONA, CA (July 25, 2009) - The race for the $75,000 first place championship points fund for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heats up as the series heads into the next three points paying events. It all kicks off on Wednesday, July 29th at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, NY. The series then heads to Virginia on Friday Night, July 31st at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA; followed on Saturday, August 1st at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD.

It will be the series' first ever visit to the State of New York on Wednesday Night, July 29th as Wednesday Night Madness will descend upon the "Action Track of the East" for a $10,000 to win event. It will be the first super late model event at the Gene Cole owned Utica-Rome Speedway located in Vernon, NY since August 17th, 2001 when veteran Eldred, PA driver Bob Close took the victory. There will be a complete show for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with PRC Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and the main event. The series will then head to the Calvin Davis promoted Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA for the second time in two years for a $7,000 to win main event. Last year in the series' first ever visit, 4-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL took the win just ahead of a hard-charging Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN who finished second. Pearson is coming off a win in the latest LOLMDS event on July 18th at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO where Pearson tied current series point's leader, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN for the most wins all-time in series history with 16. To top off the three-race stretch in three states the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series makes its second appearance of the 2009 racing season on Saturday Night, August 1st at the legendary Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD for a $10,000 to win event. In the first visit of the season by the series back in April, Tim Fuller of Watertown, NY took his first ever Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory. With 27 events in the record books for 2009 the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, competition has been stout as evident by the 19 different winners this season. Scott Bloomquist leads the championship point's standings and is still seeking his first series victory of '09. The 45-year-old National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer is seeking to end Earl Pearson Jr's reign at the top of championship standings. He holds a 220-point advantage over Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA heading to Utica-Rome, Wincheste,r and Hagerstown.


McDowell, who has two series wins this season, (Paducah and Volunteer Speedway) has put together string of ten consecutive top ten finishes to close the gap in the points with seven of those finishes in the top five. Earl Pearson, Jr. is also getting untracked as he trails McDowell by only 20 points. Jimmy Owens is 30 points behind Pearson in fourth with Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN rounding out the top five.

The remainder of the top ten in points are Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN; Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC; Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY; Eric Jacobsen of Seacliffe Beach, CA; and Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI.

John Blankenship of Williamson, WV is still the top contender for the '09 Quarter Master "Rookie of the Year" chase followed by David Breazeale of Four Corners, MS and Michael Walker of Franklin, TN.

The tire rule for all three events will be the same; American Racer - SD44 or any compound harder, SD44 must punch a minimum of 40; Hoosier 1300 or any compound harder, 1300 must punch a minimum of 40.
