BULLS GAP, Tenn. – With rain falling all around the East Tennessee region during the afternoon, Volunteer Speedway hoped to escape the scattered thunderstorms and get the Saturday, Aug. 6 racing program run. But finally at 7:45 p.m., after trying to wait-out the rain, track owner Joe Loven was forced to cancel the night of racing.

With a $1,000 bounty placed on Vic "The Thrill" Hill of Morristown, who has won seven-straight features, a stellar field of over 25 Super Late Models were present; including track regulars Kerry Jones, Rick Norris, Dale Ball, Jeff Maupin, Greg Burchett, Michael Jackson, Lloyd Osborne, Michael Smith, Jerry Broyles and Clint Solomon. Along with "bounty hunters" Jimmy Owens, Scott Sexton, Brad Hall, Roger Best and others.

Due to the track experiencing more rainouts than usual this season, to make up the lost night of racing a doubleheader is planned for next weekend, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 12-13. Complete six division racing programs featuring "Don Smith Ford" Super Late Model, "Ramey Ford" Limited (Crate) Late Model, "Lawson Chevrolet" UMP (Open-Wheel) Modified, "Bachman Bernard" Hobby Stock, "Allied Home Mortgage" Mini Stock and "Renegade" Front Wheel Drives are scheduled each night.

The pit gate will open daily at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gate at 5 p.m. Hotlaps are "tentatively" set to begin each evening at 6:45 p.m., followed by qualifying at 7:45 p.m., with racing getting the green flag "approximately" at 8:45 p.m. (or as soon as qualifying concludes).

Adult grandstand admission each night is only $7, and $2 for children 6-12, with 5-and-under admitted free. Pit passes and backside tier-parking is $20.

For those in attendance Saturday, Aug. 6 when rain washed the night of racing out, you will be allowed to use your grandstand ticket stub or pit armband on either Friday or Saturday, Aug. 12-13.

The $1,000 bounty on Hill will once again be in effect, beginning on Friday, Aug. 12. To collect the bounty on Hill (along with the regular winner's purse), he must be running at the finish for the winning driver to pocket the extra money. If someone other than Hill wins, the victory will be worth $2,000 for the 35-lap feature.

Track rules state that any driver (all divisions) who has won at least three straight feature races can start no better than sixth. But being the bounty is on the line, Hill will start the Super Late Model feature from where he qualifies. Besides his race-win streak, Hill, in quest of a fourth track championship, leads Kerry Jones by 18 points entering the Aug. 12-13 weekend of racing. And both nights will be points races for all divisions.
