Rattliff Rides to Volunteer Racing Series 15th Annual Pete Abell Memorial Win at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY- June 25, 2010- The Volunteer Racing Series would make its first ever appearance at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY on Friday evening and Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY would ride to victory in the 15th Annual Pete Abell Memorial event, becoming the 13th different winner of the race. Other feature winners for the evening included Jeremy Hines of Seymour, IN in Bob Allen Motor Mall Pro Late Models, Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY in Clayton Homes UMP Modifieds, and Gerald Haynes, Jr. of Somerset, KY in D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman.

The start of the 40 lap, $3,000 to win Volunteer Racing Series 15th Annual Pete Abell Memorial Prime Time Designs A-Main would see Dustin Linville take the race lead, followed by Greg Johnson, Mike Marlar, Justin Rattliff, and Todd Coffman. Mark Walters would spin on lap 2, collecting Dustin Neat and Kenny Cobble to draw the caution flag. Action would resume and the top five would remain the same until the caution waved again on lap 6 for a spin by Mike Strunk in turn one, also collecting Ray Jarnigan. Back underway, Linville would maintain the top spot, while Marlar and Rattliff would dive beneath Johnson to take second and third, moving Johnson back to fourth, with Eddie Carrier, Jr. making his way to fifth. With Linville putting some distance on the battle for second between, Marlar and Rattliff, Linville would start working slower traffic on lap 11. Marlar and Rattliff continued to battle for second when the caution waved again on lap 16 as Walters would slow on the frontchute with a flat left-rear tire. The restart would only see one more lap scored as the final caution of the race flew for debris in turn three. The restart would see Michael Chilton climb to the 5th spot after starting 11th, while Marlar and Rattliff renewed their tussle for second. Rattliff would win the battle for second on lap 19 as Carrier, Jr. would begin to pressure Marlar for third and take the spot two trips later on lap 21. Meanwhile, 14th starting David Webb would make his way into the top five by getting by Chilton one circuit later on lap 22. While Linville continued to hold the lead, Rattliff began the process of reeling in the leader as the pair got to traffic on lap 25, Rattliff would close right up on Linville as the duo worked door-to-door for the lead on lap 27 before Rattliff gained the top spot off of turn two on lap 28. Webb would begin to battle with Marlar for the fourth spot by lap 30, while Rattliff continued to lead the way up front. Linville closed up on Rattliff with four laps remaining, but Rattliff would see the checkered flag first in his MGL Auto Sales/On-Time Courier/JRR Auto Sales/Budda Bert Transmission Sales and Service/Peterson Fluid Systems/Cox Wrecker Service/Grant Lee Farms sponsored #16 Bloomquist Race Car, Pro Power Race Engines powered machine. Linville and Carrier, Jr. would take second and third, with Marlar and Webb completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Michael Chilton, 20th starting Dustin Neat, Greg Johnson, 19th starting Jeff Watson, and Todd Coffman. Rattliff would also the Performance Connection top qualifier among 22 entries with a 14.116 second lap, while heat wins fell to Marlar in PPM Racing Products heat one, Linville in JumpStart Communications heat two, and Greg Johnson in American Race Tires heat three.

The 20 lap Bob Allen Motor Mall Pro Late Model main event would be the Jeremy Hines show as Hines would take the lead at the start of the race and drive to a comfortable and maintain his leading distance throughout the race to pick up the victory in the seat of the Jack Rainey owned Lineal Contracting/White River Co-Op/Bedford Transport/ THR Motorsports sponsored #49 MasterSbilt Race Car, GM604 crate powered mount. P.J. Feistritzer would take second, with Clarence Belcher nipping Randy Shuman for third, while John Mulligan scored a fifth place finish. Completing the top ten were Jeff Johnson, Josh Hampton, Billy Wooldridge, Timmy Taylor, and Todd Mingey. Johnson was top qualifier among 12 entries at 14.660, while Hines also won the dash, while Mulligan won the heat.

Jason Wheatley would pick up his second straight win in Clayton Homes UMP Modified action as he wheeled his unit to the lead for all 20 laps of the open-wheel main event aboard the Kaylee and Tommy Wheatley owned St. Joe Garage/VFM Manufacturing/ Mark Martin Chevrolet/Wheatley Tile Flooring/Wheatley Seamless Gutters/Wheatley Auto Sales/Brian Wheatley Landscaping/Gootee and Mattingly Heating and Cooling/ Cozy Corner/Brady Excavating/Central Kentucky Electrical and Plumbing/Springfield Auto and Farm/Nukem Graphics/Rosewood Golf Course sponsored #7 Larry Shaw Race Car by Landers, Mullins Race Engines powered entry. Benji Lee and Don Adams would trade second on a couple occasions throughout the race, with Lee taking second and Adams settling for third, with Kevin Nesselhauf and Kelly Warren completing the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Jimmy Payne, J.T. Ayers, Randy Turpin, Shane McKenney, and Jeff Cotterman. Lee was top qualifier among 15 entries at 15.239 seconds and also won the dash, while Adams would win the heat.

Gerald Haynes, Jr. and Bartley Grant would race wheel-to-wheel for the first 12 laps of the 15 lap D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman feature race before Haynes would get a slight advantage in the final three circuits and taking his third straight win in the class driving his Troy’s Roofing/Cornett Race Engines sponsored #27 Chevy Chevelle. Grant would claim second, with Donnie Sullivan, Rick King, and Brian Elder completing the top five. Haynes, Jr. was also top qualifier among 9 entries at 16.425 seconds as Grant would claim the heat win.
