(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook and the D&R Motorsports team recorded their sixth victory of the 2009 racing season last Thursday night, July 30 at the Utica Rome Speedway in Vernon, New York! Ray qualified well in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series time trials and finished second in heat race action to earn the fifth starting spot in the 50-lap main event. The Brasstown, North Carolina native sported a great racecar during the course of the A-Main in his first-ever trip to Utica Rome and grabbed the top spot from Earl Pearson, Jr. on lap nineteen. Ray then held the point for the remaining thirty-one circuits to claim the $10,000 top prize over Eric Jacobsen, John Blankenship, Scott Bloomquist, and Dan Stone.

Following a rain-out at the Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Virginia on Friday evening, the #53 team invaded the historic Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland on Saturday, August 1. Ray qualified ninth quickest and later ran third in his competitive heat race. After starting tenth in the $10,000 to win A-Main, the driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" pitted for softer rubber and salvaged a twelfth place performance. Ray now finds himself sixth in the latest version of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point standings following Hagerstown. You can view complete results online at www.lucasdirt.com.

"We experienced some mechanical problems immediately after taking the checkers at Utica Rome, so I am glad the race wasn't 51 laps," commented Cook earlier this week. "The track prep crew did a wonderful job prior to the feature and the racing was really good. I have to thank my whole team, my sponsors, and everyone associated with D&R Motorsports for what has been a great 2009 season so far. Hopefully, we can keep digging and get back into victory lane this weekend at Florence!"

Ray and his #53 squad will now focus their efforts on the upcoming 'North/South 100' at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will once again sanction the crown jewel event, which boasts a hefty $50,000 payday. Qualifying will be held at the Cincinnati area venue on Friday night, August 7, while heat races, consolation events, and the 100-lap 'North/South 100' will headline the program on Saturday evening, August 8. The cameras of the SPEED Channel will be on hand to tape all of the wheel-to-wheel competition for broadcast later in the year.
