(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) The Ray Cook Racing team traveled to the Buckeye state of Ohio last weekend for a pair of events at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. Ray rolled off seventh for the $2,000 to win feature event on Saturday night at the 1/3-mile, high-banked oval and was running solidly in the top five before suffering a part failure as a result of running the extreme high line of the speedway. The mechanical difficulty cost Ray a solid finish and relegated him to a fifteenth place finish. Ray bounced back on Sunday, as he started tenth in the $10,000 to win Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) feature event. The driver of the Huddle House / Christenberry Trucking & Farms / Youngblood Concrete #53 MasterSbilt / Grover Ford Taurus was up to the fourth spot before trying to pass Steve Shaver for the third spot late in the race. By getting out of the preferred groove on the speedway, Rick Aukland was able to get back around Cook for the fourth spot. Ray wound up finishing a solid fifth in the final rundown.

“All in all, it was a pretty good weekend for us at Portsmouth,” said “The Tarheel Tiger” on Tuesday. “I had only been there once before, but I feel like we had a top three or four car both nights. The track had a pretty good cushion on Saturday night and I was actually trying to run above the cushion because I was fast up there and no one was racing there. I guess the car could only take so much of that and we wound up breaking. Then on Sunday, we passed a few cars before the track became hard to pass on. I got by (Rick) Aukland for fourth and then I tried to get by (Steve) Shaver for third and that backfired on me. We will just get our car ready for Eldora this weekend and try to have another strong run like we did at the Dream. The main thing at Eldora is to get into the show because of all the competition and the invert situation. Then once you are in the show, you can really start concentrating on trying to win the thing.”

Ray and the team will tackle the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio this weekend. The grand-daddy of all Dirt Late Model races takes place this Friday and Saturday at the 1/2-mile, high-banked dirt oval in west-central Ohio and Ray will be on hand to vie for the annual ‘World 100’ crown. Qualifying for the event will take place on Friday night, with heat races, the B-Main event, and the 100-lap, $38,000 to win ‘World 100’ set for Saturday evening. The latest news and information concerning this event, as well as live updates throughout the weekend, can be found at the official Eldora Speedway website located at www.eldoraspeedway.com.
