As PIR prepares for the 2008 racing season, 77 competitors – a record number for a pre-season practice session - brought their machines to the 3/8 mile high-banked oval Saturday, March 22 for the final opportunity to practice before the new racing season begins this Friday.

Extremely fast, brightly colored, freshly painted, rebuilt and brand new machines were on hand for the daytime test session, previewing what fans can expect to see in the new year at PIR.

The season will officially begin this Friday evening, March 28, with the appearance of two major NASCAR stars. Two-time NASCAR Cup Champion, Tony Stewart and Ken Schrader, both business partners in PIR, will be competing in the Late Model division. A full program of Late Model, Modified, Crate Late Model, Street Stock, Warrior, and Vintage racing is on tap for Opening Night.
The engines will roar back to life, the dirt will fly, and the cars will broadslide around PIR in the first night of competition for 2008. Defending Champions Kevin Cole, Justin Houston, Jeff Walston, Darrell Hartman, and Jeffrey Bailey will lead their divisions into battle as the curtain goes up on another season of high-bankin’ dirt-trackin’.
All on-track action will take place in front of PIR’s twenty unique new Luxury Suites. This year, selected PIR spectators and sponsors will enjoy one of the nation’s premiere short track hospitality facilities.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Ken Schrader, and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of Co-Owners as a partner in September of 2006. In 2008 the 3/8th mile high-banked oval will host several high profile events including three NASCAR Nights, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, the USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge. Paducah International Raceway races every Friday night and is located off Interstate 24 at exit 11 in Paducah, Kentucky.
