Reichert, Williams Lead Qualifiers At Gateway Int’l Raceways Nhra Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Event

ST. LOUIS – The opening day of qualifying and time trials is complete at Gateway Int’l Raceway’s Rage at the River, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. Bill Reichert set the pace in the Top Alcohol Dragster class while Kirk Williams led the charge in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Reichert, the reigning Top Alcohol Dragster national and North Central division champion from Owosso, Mich., ran 5.496 seconds at 267.64 mph to take the No. 1 spot. Reichert’s pass was nearly a tenth quicker than No. 2 qualifier Marty Thacker of Robinson, Ill. Thacker ran 5.587 seconds at 249.76 mph.

Glenwood, Iowa, resident Williams made a 5.775-second, 252.38 mph pass for the top spot. Marty Nothstein of Orefield, Pa., is the second-place qualifier with a 5.800-second, 252.90 mph effort. Springfield, Ill., resident Dan Wilkerson, son on NHRA Funny Car racer Tim Wilkerson, is qualified in the seventh spot.

In Comp Eliminator, David Eaton of Merritt Island, Fla., is No. 1 in his ’32 roadster and Delaware, Ohio’s John Coughlin drove his ’07 Cobalt to the pole in Super Stock. Bert Morgan, Charleston, Ill., in his ’76 Buick wagon tops the Stock Eliminator field. Canyon, Texas, resident Greg Lair drove his ’04 Grand Am to the No. 1 spot in Top Sportsman and Anthony Bronge, Park Ridge, Ill., wheeled his dragster to the No. 1 position in Top Dragster.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Gateway Int’l Raceway. Gates open at 7 a.m. both days. Final qualifying and time trials are slated to start at 10 a.m. Saturday. Top Dragster qualifying is at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.; Top Sportsman qualifying is at 5 and 8 p.m.; and Comp Eliminator qualifying is at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at 6 and 9 p.m. Eliminations will start at 9 a.m. Sunday. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the Rage at the River Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event are $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. A two-day pass is $35. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
