RGR Picks up First Feature Victory of the Year
(March 20, 2005)- Rusty Griffaw Racing picked up their first feature victory of the year by besting 23 other Modifieds at Poplar Bluff Speedway on Saturday night March the 19th. The Festus, Missouri, driver began the night by starting 5th in the first of three heat races. By lap 4, Rusty had taken the lead and coasted his way to the checkered flag over the final 6 laps. Because of his heat race finish, Rusty was awarded the pole for the scheduled 20 lap feature. The red clay track held moisture all night, thus resulting in many cautions in other events. The feature was then shortened to 15 laps. The Impressive Chasis #16 paced the field along with fellow front row starter and St. Francois County Track Champion, Billy "The Kid" Smith from Park Hills, Missouri. With the drop of the green, the two raced door-to-door over the opening two laps. By lap 3, Rusty had taken the lead with Billy Smith still glued to his back bumper. The lead swapped as the two encountered some heavy lap traffic. Caution on lap 7 slowed the torrid pace and "The Kid" now was the leader. The next 5 green flag laps proved to be some of the best action all night. On the start of lap 11, "The Kid" and Rusty went high into turn 1 and while racing down the back stretch Rusty powered low into turns 3 and 4 and regained the lead for good. One last caution on lap 12 bunched the field once more for the last restart of the race. Rusty went on to capture his first feature victory of the 2005 season followed by Smith and fellow Impressive Chasis driver Steve Maisel.

RGR will again be in action next Saturday...March 26th. The team has not yet decided on which track they will be attending. RGR would like to thank the following 2005 sponsors: PRC Precision Rod and Custom, Worley Designs, Phine Designs, Valvoline Instant Oil Change, Homeservice Oil, Impressive Race Cars, SCP Racing Engines, Egeler Promotions, Ace Tools, KO Cuts and Touchdown Tans, STLRACING.COM, Hoosier Racing Tires, Mark's Garage, Brauch's Lawn Service, and Carquest Auto Parts.

Hey Steve you forgot Performance Machine as a sponsor, and I would like to personally thank Performance Machine for getting Rusty's gears done in order to make racing at "The Bluff" possible for Rusty this last Saturday night.

Great job, Rusty & Billy....

Congratulations to two of my favorite modified drivers. Glad to hear that you guys put on a good show for the fans at Poplar Bluff Speedway freezing their butts off. Congratulations, Rusty on your first victory of the 2005 racing season. I'm sure it's only the first of MANY, MANY, MANY more to follow. I would have been happy to see either you or Billy win. Although Billy walked away with a 2nd place finish, I'm sure he too will have many, many, many feature wins this season.

Good luck to both of you in the 2005 racing season.

Crystal
