ST MARYS, Ohio (Aug. 28, 2017) – Josh Richards earned a podium-finish of third at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway Saturday night to maintain his Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship points lead.

Richards and crew began the evening at the three-eighths-mile clay oval with hot laps and qualifying. He ran the fourth quickest circuit in his hot lap group and went on to qualify first in Group B. His fist-place qualifying effort lined him up on the pole for Heat Race 3. At the drop of the green flag, Richards easily led the 10-lap event flag-to-flag. His heat race win guaranteed him the second starting spot for the night’s 60-lap Feature.

Starting on the outside pole, the Best Performance Motorsports driver remained in second as the field quickly spread out and began to encounter lapped cars. While maneuvering through traffic, Richards went low on Lap 9 and got stuck behind a lapped car causing him to slip back to third. As the race went on, Richards held down the third spot until a caution period on Lap 42. On the ensuing restart Richards chose the high-side and lost several positions, but was able to muscle his way back to fourth through Turns 3 and 4. The following lap he retook command of the third spot and remained there for the final 17 laps to bring home a podium-finish.

Richards’ continues to lead in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point standings 125 points over second-place Scott Bloomquist.

The Best Performance Motorsports team is scheduled to return to action Sept. 2, at Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park and Sept. 3, at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia.

JOSH RICHARDS QUOTES: “We had a pretty good car at Lawrenceburg (Speedway). I’m just kicking myself on that restart. I thought the car would be better than it was on the top and we just fell back. Thanks to everyone at Best Performance Motorsports. I only raced here once in 2009, so most of these other guys have a lot more laps around here. We have run a lot of places for the very first time this year. It’s been fun, we’ll just keep digging at it.”
