(YORK, PENNSYLVANIA) Rick Eckert captured his biggest win of the 2005 racing season to date and one of the biggest wins of his illustrious racing career last Thursday night by winning the ‘Scorcher 100’ at the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee. The York, Pennsylvania native turned the second quickest time in qualifying and won his heat race in preliminary action on Wednesday to earn the outside pole position for the 100-lap, $30,000 to win ‘Scorcher 100’ on Thursday. Polesitter Dale McDowell got the initial jump on the field, but Rick quickly passed McDowell for the lead in the opening laps of the event. Rick then survived a lap seventy-five competition yellow and late-race motor problems to hold off McDowell for the $30,000 victory.

“It was great to get the win at Bulls Gap, but we had our work cut out for us as we broke a balancer on the motor late in the race,” stated Eckert recently. “I am glad to finally get a win at the Volunteer Speedway since we have had some strong runs there in the past and have come up short. The practice session really helped get our car dialed in for qualifying and race conditions. The win is definitely one of the biggest accomplishments of my racing career and I hope that the track decides to keep having this race year after year. The crowd was great and it was awesome to stand in front of them with the big trophy and the $30,000 check. I have to thank my car owner Raye Vest, my crew, my family, and all of my sponsors and supporters. It was a total team effort.”

Rick was also slated to be in action on Friday in a World of Outlaws Stacker2 Late Model Series event at the Western Kentucky Speedway in Madisonville, Kentucky, but that event was rained out following a torrential downpour in the area.

The driver dubbed as “Scrub” and the team will bring their Raye Vest / J&J Steel #24 Rocket / Cornett Ford Taurus to the Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon, Indiana this Friday night for a World of Outlaws Stacker2 Late Model Series event. The $10,000 to win ‘Indiana Labor Day Classic 50’ will be held this coming Friday night at the 3/8-mile, high-banked dirt oval. Rick will then take Saturday to travel to Sunday’s World of Outlaws event at the Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, Pennsylvania. The ‘Bossard GM Store / Todd Donovan Memorial 50’ is on tap at the 1/2-mile, semi-banked oval on Sunday and a $10,000 payday is on the line. The #24 currently sits fifth in the 2005 World of Outlaws Stacker2 Late Model Series point standings after thirty-one events. He is 104 points behind current point leader Billy Moyer. Rick has amassed one victory, thirteen Top Five runs, and twenty-five Top Ten finishes in the thirty-one events this season. He has earned $81,360 in prize money thus far on the circuit. The York, Pennsylvania driver finished third in last year's inaugural version of the WoO point standings.
