(YORK, PENNSYLVANIA) Rick Eckert captured his first World of Outlaws Late Model Series win of the 2004 season last Saturday night at the Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD. Rick won his heat race and finished second in the dash to earn an outside front-row starting position for the 50-lap, $10,000 to win event. The Raye Vest Racing / J&J Steel #24 Rocket / Cornett Ford Taurus led all 50 laps, despite being challenged by fellow “Dirty Dozen” member Steve Francis throughout the race. The win was the fifteenth win by Eckert at the nearby oval.

“It felt great to get my first WoO win and especially in front of a lot of my family and friends at Hagerstown,” stated Eckert on Monday. “I really never ran Hagerstown a lot while I was racing locally in years past, but it was great to get a big win in front of a lot of my area fans. After last weekend at Kilgore, TX, it was important that we turn things around and get some good finishes. We got a win and another Top Five this weekend, so it was a successful weekend for us.”

The other Top Five finish Rick was referring to came on Friday night at the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA. Rick finished third in his heat race to earn a seventeenth starting spot in the $10,000 to win, 50-lap race. The #24 started to make a charge to the front at the drop of the green flag and used lap traffic to get up to the fifth place spot at the end of the race. He had caught the front four when the checkered flags fell over the field.

Rick and the Raye Vest Racing team will continue their quest for the 2004 World of Outlaws Late Model Series title this weekend when he competes in a pair of WoO events. Friday night’s show will be at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN. The following night, the “Dirty Dozen” will be in action at the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA. Both events will pay $10,000 to the win. For more information about these two events, log onto www.worldofoutlawslatemodelseries.com.
