Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (April 18, 2019) - Travis Rilat posted his best result with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series since 2012 last Friday at Devil's Bowl Speedway.
Rilat guided BDS Motorsports to an eighth-place finish during the Texas Outlaw Nationals. It was his best run with the World of Outlaws since a seventh-place outing on Aug. 31, 2012, at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash.
"That was a great night for the team," he said. "It's a tough task to race with the World of Outlaws and do well, especially when it's your first 410 race of the year and they're already two months into the season. For us to earn a top 10 is like a win."
Rilat opened the action by qualifying fifth quickest around the half-mile oval.
"We got a good draw to go out early for qualifying and we made the most of it," he said. "I think only a couple of guys who went out after us beat us in qualifying. The track fell off a bit from start to finish in qualifying so that played to our advantage."
Rilat finished third in a heat race to lock into the eighth starting position for the main event.
"We don't race with the World of Outlaws very often so that was probably our best starting position with them for several years," he said. "Everything was rushed with weather in the area and the track ended up taking rubber pretty quickly. We pretty much rode in line throughout the race so it was critical to have a good starting position."
Rilat maintained a top 10 throughout the feature before placing eighth. It marked his first top 10 with the Outlaws since September 2016 and it extended his top-10 streak at Devil's Bowl Speedway to 15 straight seasons.
Saturday's event finale at Devil's Bowl Speedway rained out.
