QUINCY, IL - Rob Toland of Hillsdale, Ill., completed a weekend sweep, winning Sunday night’s Deery Brothers Summer Series feature for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Late Models at Quincy Raceway.

Toland led from start to finish in the 50-lapper, adding the Quincy prize and another $2,000 check to victories Friday at Davenport, Iowa, Speedway and Saturday at Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa, Iowa.

The hat trick puts him one win from matching the all-time Deery Series record of four consecutive victories, set by Gary Webb of Blue Grass, Iowa, in 1994.

Two other drivers have won three straight series events. Curt Martin of Independence, Iowa, did the deed twice in 1990. Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls, Iowa, won three in a row in 2000.

Points leader Lonnie Bailey of Quincy was runner-up to Toland for the third consecutive night. Bailey made two tries in the low groove to take the lead on the final circuit and was right on Toland’s tail at the finish. Boone McLaughlin of Mediapolis, Iowa, and Denny Woodworth of Mendon crossed the line right behind Bailey in third and fourth, respectively.

Heat winners were Jamie Wilson of Quincy, Josh McGowan of Vinton, Iowa, Bailey and Woodworth. Defending series champion Mark Burgtorf of Quincy topped the “B” feature.

Toland gets his shot at matching Webb’s mark when the Deery Series resumes on Memorial Day during the Super Nationals Warmup special at Boone, Iowa, Speedway.
