Rodney Melvin of Logan, IL and the DADD’s Motorsports team has concluded their 2005 racing season. Melvin competed in eighty-eight races during the regular UMP racing season. During 2005, Rodney followed the UMP Summernational Racing Series, UMP Challenge of Champions Series, and the Northern All-Star Late Model Series. He followed these series’ while still competing for an unprecedented fourth UMP National Championship Title. Rodney earned twenty-eight feature wins, which was unmatched by any other driver. In addition, of the eighty-eight feature events, he finished within the top five fifty-seven times (65% of the time). A few of Rodney’s 2005 feature wins included: 1 UMP Summernational Series Win, 2 Northern All-Star Late Model Series Wins, 1 UMP Challenge of Champions Win, 2 NASCAR Night Feature Victories and MS Race for a Cure Victory at Highland Speedway. Of course Rodney enjoyed all of his feature wins, but Rodney said, “One of the most enjoyable races of the year, for me, was the NALMS at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana. Randy Korte and I battled through lapped traffic for the lead and we had a lot of fun doing it.” Rodney ended up winning that battle with Korte and took his second NALMS victory in ’05. In January 2006, Rodney Melvin will be awarded with his fourth UMP National Championship Title. With this Championship, Rodney became the first driver to ever win three National titles in a row and four National titles overall. This year Rodney also won his fourth UMP Illinois State Title and his fifth Mt. Vernon, Illinois Track Championship. Rodney also finished second in the UMP Challenge of Champions Series, fifth in the UMP Summernational Series Tour and finished fourth during the NALMS Midwest Speedweek. With four UMP National Titles and a third place finish in ’03, obviously something works with this driver/owner combination.
