Happy, Texas (08/12/14) – It was a busy weekend for Rodney Sanders in his #20 Swan Energy/Kimrad Transport/Wichita Tank Racing/MB Customs Open Wheel Modified as he resumed the Hunt for the Casey's Cup with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS).

On Thursday evening action opened at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kansas) with a $3,000-to-win race that attracted 37 entries to the oval. Rodney finished second in his heat race to move onto the redraw for the feature, where he received the third starting spot. Unfortunately a mechanical failure early in the main event forced Sanders to retire to a disappointing 25th place finish.

Looking for better luck, Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas) was the destination for the team on Friday night. Thirty-three entries registered for battle, and a heat race win positioned Rodney in the redraw for the feature where he received the outside-front-row starting spot alongside Dereck Ramirez. Sanders bolted to the race lead at the drop of green flag, and despite a couple of late-race cautions that kept the field within striking distance, led all 40 laps of the main event en route to the $3,000 payday. Cade Dillard finished second followed by Darron Fuqua, Zack VanderBeek, and Dereck Ramirez rounding out the top five finishers. The victory marked his 26th of the season.

The weekend drew to a close on Saturday night at the state-of-the-art, Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri), as 48 entries set their sights on the $3,000 top prize. Rodney charged from ninth to finish second in his heat race before once again receiving the second starting spot for the feature. Sanders led the first seventeen circuits of the 40 lapper until the race's first caution waved, stacking the field back up. On the restart Rodney failed to come up to speed with mechanical issues on his mount. He stopped one lap later to draw the caution and ducked into the work area. The crew thrashed to make repairs, and Sanders was able to rejoin the tail of the field before going back green. Rodney sliced through the pack from the eighteenth position to recover a fifth place finish behind race winner, Terry Phillips, Trevor Hunt, Cade Dillard, and Jeremy Payne.

Sanders continues to lead the latest Hunt for the Casey's Cup standings by 53 markers over his closest pursuer. Full results from the events and the current standings are available at www.USMTS.com .
