Happy, Texas (06/22/14) – Rodney Sanders pushed his 2014 win tally to fourteen over the weekend with yet another triumph in his #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified.

Rodney Sanders was back in victory lane with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) on Thursday evening at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kansas). Sanders prevailed over Zack VanderBeek by eleven one-thousandths of a second in a finish that is sure to be talked about for years to come. Thirty competitors entered the event, and a heat race win once again sent Sanders to the redraw for the feature, where he received the second starting spot alongside Dallas Everett. From the outside front row, Sanders blasted to the race lead at the drop of the green flag. Rodney held a commanding lead out front until the race's first yellow flag slowed the action on lap eighteen. Sanders fended off second running Zack VanderBeek through two more caution periods before the third and final yellow flag waved with three to go.

This time, Sanders couldn't shake VanderBeek, and the two raced door-to-door with Sanders pounding the cushion around the 3/8 mile while VanderBeek ran low. A bobble by Sanders allowed VanderBeek to inch ahead at the white flag. The duo when wheel-to-wheel through the first turn and drag-raced down the back-stretch. VanderBeek exited turn four with about a half-car-length advantage, but Sanders held the momentum around the top as he took the checkered flag, nipping VanderBeek at the line for the $2,000 victory. Kelly Shryock, Thomas Tillison Jr., and Dylan Smith rounded out the top five finishers.

To go with his win Sanders opened the weekend with a third place finish at Valley Speedway (Grain Valley, Missouri) before ending the weekend on Friday and Saturday with runner-up efforts at Elk City Speedway (Elm Mott, Texas) and Route 66 Motor Speedway (Amarillo, Texas).
"The competition is so tough on this tour right now with guys like Zack (VanderBeek) and Stormy (Scott) really on top of their game so to get a win any night is a big deal for us," said Sanders. "Obviously I would've liked to have stole another win or two, but finishing in the top three every night isn't so bad either.
