Matt Bailey, Michael Long, Tony Dunker and Kale Foster got the feature event wins in racing action at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, July 24 on a racetrack surface that featured over 200 loads of new clay. The track crew at Quincy worked very hard over the last week to haul, work in and smooth out all the new clay that was added to the quarter mile oval. The track held together remarkably well and it showed as the racing action several different grooves during the extremely hot night of racing.

Matt Bailey took the lead from his pole position start and never looked back in grabbing his first ever feature event win during the Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event. Bailey pulled to as much a full straight lead to take the win in his first year of driving any kind of race car. Another Rookie, Kevin Tomlinson tried in vain to reel in Bailey but had to settle for second after holding off Mark Burgtorf at the finish line. Matt’s father, Lonnie settled for the fourth spot followed by Ron Elbe in fifth. Mike Dycke and Matt Bailey were the heat race winners with Jerry Weisenberger getting the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Mark Burgtorf holds a thirty three point margin over Lonnie Bailey in the points race.

Michael Long took the win in the Miller Lite A Modified feature event that saw only four cars complete the full twenty lap distance. Long was challenged over the entire race distance by Brandon Lennox but Lennox was never able to mount enough to take the lead and had to settle for second over Jim Roach in third, Kelly Bartz in fourth and Henry Delonjay in fifth. Ted Allen and Long were the heat race winners. Delonjay now has a twenty three point margin over Lennox.

Terry Houston jumped into the lead of the B Modified feature event at the drop of the green flag and looked to be on his way to his fourth win of the year until Tony Dunker started to challenge for the top spot on the thirteenth lap. Dunker put the pressure on Houston and finally got a pass for the lead to stick on the seventeenth circuit. Houston held onto second as Dunker pulled away for the feature event win. Jeff Waterman claimed the third spot with Wyatt Lance in fourth and Chris Larson in fifth. Joe Blivens and Larson were the heat race winners while Dunker scored the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Lance now hold a twenty nine point lead in the chase to the track points title.

Rookie Kale Foster fought the good battle in the Bomber feature event and it paid off as he grabbed his first ever feature event win. Another Rookie Steve Steinkuhler tried in vain to get the lead away from Foster but had to settle for second. Steve Carlin crossed the finish line in third but when he refused to sell his engine when it was legally claimed, Carlin was DQ’d for the night, losing his points and pay for the evenings events. Third then went to Adam Birck followed by Dusty Bingaman in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth. Carlin and Steinkuhler were the heat race winners. Points leader, Eddie Dieker had disaster strike his race night as a flat tire forced him to the pits and he was never able to return to the action. Dieker’s points lead now has been cut to six over Adam Birck. Carlin fell to fourth behind Michael Larsen after his disqualification.

Up next at Quincy Raceways will be Aarons Night at the Races on Sunday, July 31. Gates open at 4 with Hot Laps at 6 and racing at 6:30pm. The 4 cylinder Short Trackers will be on the race card along with the Budweiser IMCA Late Models, Miller Lite A-Modifieds, B Mods and Bombers.
