Saldana Soars to Win at Pike County
Magnolia, MS-March 17, 2007--By: Tony Veneziano, World of Outlaws PR Director

Joey Saldana could not have asked for a better night than he had on Saturday at
Pike County Speedway. He opened the evening by turning the fastest lap in
practice, and be bettered that even more in time trials, as he was quickest of
the 30 cars to take to the clock. He finished second in the first heat to earn
a spot in the dash, where he started on the pole and won. This in turn lined
him up in the top spot of the 35-lap A-Feature, where he would lead every
single lap en route to his second World of Outlaws win of the season and
earning the $10,000 lion's share of the purse.

After an aborted start on the initial green flag due to a caution before a full
lap was scored, a complete restart was in order, and in the second go-around
Saldana charged to the lead in turn one, with Steve Kinser in toe.

Saldana aboard the Mopar-powered Open Joist JEI, was able to pull away after a
couple of mid-race cautions bunched the field. At one instant the caution flag
came out for a car spinning right in front of Saldana and Schatz, in the second
turn. The pair was quickly on the brakes and took evasive action to not get
caught up in the incident. Saldana turned the fastest lap of the race shortly
thereafter, as only he and Schatz turned sub-15 second laps in the event.

"It was a really good night," said Saldana, the 1996 World of Outlaws Kevin
Gobrecht Rookie of the Year. "I felt like I had a really good car tonight. I
couldn't ask for a better team to drive for. It's an honor to drive this
car, and hopefully we can continue to run this good."

After earning his fifth Top-Five of the season on Friday night at Houston
Raceway Park, Saldana was determined to use that momentum as the series
returned to the high banks of Pike County Speedway for the first time since
2005. One of the keys to the night was the first heat race, in which Saldana
lined up fourth and battled to finish in the Top-two so that he could start in
the Top-Six of the dash. After setting fast time he was guaranteed a spot in
the dash no matter what, but he wanted to make sure he started in the first
three rows.

"I had to work really hard to get in the Top-two in the heat race with (Tim)
Shaffer," he said. "That definitely paid off."

Schatz, make a couple of strong moves on Saldana, and inched ahead on the eighth
lap as they charged down the front straightaway, but at the line Saldana was
scored the leader, by mere fractions of a second.. Late in the going, Saldana
got a little bottled up in traffic, and again Schatz closed in, but he faced
heavy traffic as well. The native of Fargo, North Dakota began the night by
winning the second heat, and wrapped it up with in the runner-up position, as
he earned his eighth Top-Five finish in nine events, as he continues to lead
the championship standings.

"We wanted to win," bottom lined Schatz, driver of the Parker Store J&J.
"That is what we were going for. We were set up for that, and we were banking
on the track just being slick. It laid rubber and everybody just got in line.
That's just the way it is. I think without a few of those early yellows, we
would have been in better shape. It?s racing, and it's done and over with.
It's not where we want to be, but we have to deal with it and go on."

Steve Kinser led on the opening start, but due to a full lap not being turned, a
complete restart was in order. He battled with Schatz early, before going wheel
to wheel with Danny Lasoski. For the 20-time World of Outlaws Champion, it was
his second straight Top-Five finish and third overall. He started the night by
claiming the victory in the first heat and wound up third in the A-Feature.

"We're starting to get things going in the right direction," said Kinser,
driver of the Q Oil Maxim. "It's better than it was. We are still nowhere
near where we need to be right now to run with the 15 car and the 9 car right
now. We're a lot closer. We'll go back home and go to work and give it a
shot next weekend."

For setting fast time, Saldana earned five bonus points, and thus was able to
chip nine points off of Schatz?s lead in the championship standings. The
second generation driver expects to continue battling Schatz for wins all
season long.

"This is huge for us," said Saldana. "If we wouldn't have had that
incident at Tulare, we would be right in the thick of things with (Donny)
Schatz right now. It's early, but in this Outlaws deal, if you are struggling
early, it takes you a long time to get it back. Points are so hard to make up,
that you really don't want to be behind too much. As long as we are there and
keep running good, we should have a shot at the end of the year."

Danny Lasoski was fourth in the Roth Motorsports Eagle. For the 2001 series
champion, it was his fifth Top-10 finish of the season, and third Top-Five, as
he is solidly in the Top Ten in points. The native of Dover, Missouri lined up
on the outside of the second row for the 35-lap event, and staged a very
entertaining battle with Kinser during the first half of the event. He also won
a heat race earlier in the night to earn a spot in the dash.

Jason Meyers had a very solid night, as he came home fifth in the Primerica
Financial Maxim. He moved around Daryn Pittman on the 12th lap to break into
the Top-Five. It was the third Top-Five of the season for the native of Clovis,
California.

The rest of the Top-10 was Daryn Pittman in sixth in the Titan Garages Maxim.
Terry McCarl came home seventh in the Big Game Treestands Eagle. Craig
Dollansky was eighth in the Karavan Trailer Maxim. In ninth it was Tim Kaeding
in the Steve Kinser Racing Maxim. Jason Sides rallied for a 10th-place run
after winning the B-Main to race his way into the A-Feature, after getting
upside in the second heat.

The World of Outlaws will make their maiden voyage to the ultra-fast,
high-banked Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee on Saturday March 24.
