Inside Line Promotions - SALINA, Okla. - The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series will make its lone appearance in the state of Oklahoma this Friday at Salina Highbanks Speedway.
It will mark the third visit to the fast track for the premier sprint car series, which is highlighted by the "Salute to the King" tour - honoring 20-time series champion Steve Kinser, who is in his final year of chasing a championship.
"It's always good to be racing in Oklahoma," Kinser said. "We've had so many good nights at tracks all over the state since the Outlaws started, but we've only been to Salina Highbanks a couple of times."
Oklahoma native Daryn Pittman, who hails from Owasso, enters the event as the current World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings leader after winning the most recent event last Saturday in Texas.
After claiming his first career World of Outlaws championship last season, Pittman is tied for the series lead with three feature wins this season heading into Salina Highbanks Speedway.
"It's a place I look forward to," he said. "It's a great design. It's extremely fast for its size. It's got a lot of banking on the straightaways and the corners. It's a unique layout. I wish we ran more tracks like that."
The top four in the championship standings are separated by only 18 points and 10 drivers have already claimed at least one feature victory this season entering this weekend.
