Springfield,Mo.-The season long points championship chase for the 2009 track titles will come to a halt Sat night Sept 5th at the Quick-Quarter of the SpringfieldRaceway as 4 track champions will be crowned with 3 classes still undecided.
The Racing action will feature the USRA Modifieds,Bombers,Legends and the ever growing popular SportMods along with a special apperance by the Pro-4 LateModels as racing will start at 7:30 while hotlaps begin at 6:45 and the Grandstand Gates open at 5PM.
In the USRA Modifieds,it has boiled down to a battle between defending track champion Jackie dalton of Carthage and Mitch Keeter of Webb City as Dalto enters the night with a 1 point lead when the green flag drops on the feature event.Running this season under the USRA Banner, Dalton was fast out of the gate with 3 straight wins in a row to start the season while Keeter recorded 2 seconds and a fifth place finish. Since then Dalton has recorded 1 more victory and 2 runner-up spots while having 2 finishes outside the top 10 with a 12th place and a rough 17th place finish while Keeter has yet to finish outside the top 10 all season long,yet winless this season.
The Popular SportMod class has already seen Joplin veteran Billy Street clinch the title with a 5th place finish last Sat Night but the battle for second and beyond is tight as Roy Maynard of Alba,Mike Hailman of ReedSprings, and outside chance chaser and Monett champion JC"The Kid" Morton of Springfield chasing spots and the battle for 5th and beyond is very tight.
The Bomber division will see it go to the wire also as Springfield's James Redus holds a 2 point lead over Robert High.With those 2 drivers going head to head in the high point heat race and feature event,it will go to the final laps to crown the champion.A big car count can make the difference in the final outcome.
The Legends class finds Springfield's Jason Rayle really coming on late this season while early season leader Park Jones having his share of bad luck.Rayle will be the driver to beat in the final standing as he holds a 17 point lead over Dave Comer of Joplin,Comer has been on a roll lately winning the last 4 feature events while Jones is 20 markers behind.A clean sweep of winning the heat and feature can gather a driver 25 points,but a tight system in heats and feature points has a very tight drop-off down the line.Again a big car count can make a difference here also.
Grandstand Gates open at 5 with hotlaps at 6:45 and Racing at 7:30 sharp.
