SHANNON BABB becomes 1st repeat winner on SUMMER NATS TOUR at Peoria, Illinois

The Mowequa Missile, Shannon Babb of Mowequa, Illinois showed his dominant fashion once more that led to his 2005 Summer Nationals crown as 50 UMP late models rolled through the gates at the Peoria Speedway. In taking the checkered flag and the $6,000 prize that goes with it, Babb would become the first repeat winner on the "06 tour.

2005 UMP National Champion Rodney Melvin would jump to the lead from his row 2 pole starting position at the drop of the green to lead lap 1. On lap 2 Dennis Erb took over the front spot and would set the pace over the next 32 markers. Babb would get underneath Erb on to lead lap 34 and would lead the remainder of the event, taking the checkeres ahead of Melvin who got under Erb for the runner up spot on lap 36, Erb, Ryan Dauber, Wes Steidinger, Wendell Wallace, Jeep Van Wormer, Randy Kotrte, Donnie Walden and Denny Woodworth rounding out the top 10 finishers.

Babb was driving his Bill Moyer, Sr. owned C.J. Rayburn built #18 powered by a RaceTek powerplant with sponsorship from CAR CITY, Watters Autoland, Hoosier by Smash, J&J Steel, Weld Wheels, Platinum Motors, Petroff Towing Outlawd Motorsports, Dyers Top Rods, Triple B Outfitters, OutPace Products and Team Petersen under the preperation of Jay Hunt and Andrew Barnes and chassis and shock consultation from Mike Mudd.

The evening began with Babb recording the fast time of the night with a time of 13.182.

The heat races were won by Babb over Steidinger and Kotrte, Melvin over Wallace and Walden, Erb over Woodworth and Jay Sparks and Dauber over Van Wormer and Tim Lance.

The dash was topped by Dauber over Erb, Melvin and Babb.

Consi action would transfer Kevin Weaver, Steve Lance, Mike Marlar in the first and Billy Drake, Tony Izzo, Jr. and Don Hammer from the second to the 40 lap main event.

Tomorrow night the UMP contingent will travel to Macon, Illinois for a $6,.000.00 to win 100 lap A-Main event at the always exciting, action packed house of hardcore mayhem known as the Little Speedway that Can... the Mighty Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois, located just 9 miles east of Decatur, Illinois off of US Rt. 51.
