Slot Racing

Hey everyone, Vintage52 (Doyle) here. I own and run the semoslotracing.com site and track here in Poplar Bluff. First thanks to Chevy Woman for posting the link here on STL Racing.
Slot racing is seeing a big resurgence and there are all types of racing being done on home tracks with clubs being formed that move around to various home tracks. My track is now a 53+ foot oval. We race the 1:24 scale Nascars. The cars are the model kits with a Pro Track Chassis attached. There are also several 1:32 cars made by Scalextric. The racing is fun and a lot of great people are involved. To learn more about the hobby check out www.homeracingworld.com. It is operated by Harry Wise, one of the experts in the hobby and there is a forum with folks from all over the world joinng in on the discussions.
I am looking forward to getting my two step sons out to the area tracks here in southeast Missouri to see the real racing this year so hope to meet some of of there. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Drag Strip Slots?

There is a little bit of everything to be found in the slot racing... ovals, road courses and yes even some drag strips. The controllers for the drag races are pretty much low ohm on/off switches. There are timing/tree light systems made especially for the drag racing just like 1:1. The major obstacle for drags is the room needed to make a scale distance track. I think a 1/4 mile replica needs around 55 feet for a 1:32 straight shot . Then ya need a way to slow the cars down and some even use some kind of catch basket at the end. A buddy of mine use to travel to the major circuits for the slot drag championships and has told me they have clocked these "toys" on radar doing 90+ mph. Check out the forums on www.homeracingworld.com and www.slotcarillustrated.com to look for more information.
