(LEBANON) Over 80 cars, including 29 Late Models, hit the high banks
of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway for a special night of racing Tuesday night in front of a capacity crowd.

Late Model stars like Billy Moyer, Terry Phillips, Steve Francis and Chub Frank found the red clay of the I-44 Speedway to be even faster than it was since the World of Outlaw Late Models last raced at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway in 2006.

Though the 50-lap feature was frequently halted due to blown tire cautions, Clint Smith managed to avoid problems and moved through the star-studded field from the 10th starting spot to grab the lead from Rick Eckert of York, Pa., on lap 28.

"I had a good line going and I could kill them off [turn] four over here," Smith said following the race.

This was Smith's third tour win of the 2007 season.

Brian Shirley finished second, 1.282 seconds behind Smith. Eckert finished third, followed by WoO LMS points leader Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., and Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga.

Late Model time trials proved to be fast once again at the high banked red clay of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway. Several weeks ago at the speedway, Jeremy Payne set the track record at 14.28, nearly six tenths of a second faster than the record set by Chub Frank in 2006.
Payne's record did not last long, with Billy Moyer turning a lap in 13.670 seconds at 106MPH. Steve Francis, Shannon Babb, Clint Smith, and Chub Frank also qualified in under 14 seconds.

In a night already filled with big stars of motorsports, NASCAR driver Ken Schrader was at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway Tuesday night, with his
#99 Red Barron Pizza Late Model. Schrader crashed in the B-Main and failed to transfer into the A-Main Feature. He turned down a provisional entry offered by the World of Outlaw Late Model Series, wanting instead to let the local guys race.

Still. Schrader definitely felt the increased speed on the track.

"You took a track that was already fast and made it faster," said the NASCAR veteran about the red clay. "[Lebanon I-44 Speedway] is a place I always look forward coming to."

The large crowd turned out for the big Late Model race, but was also treated to great action in the supporting classes that included 42 Factory Stocks and 25 Modifieds.

All 26 Modifieds started the 20-lap feature, which saw plenty of side by side racing between I-44 Speedway favorites like Rex Merritt, Johnny Bone, Jr., Tony Jackson, Jr., and David Hendrix.

Merritt lead much of the race, but was passed late by Hendrix.
Hendrix is known for preferring the high line around the track, but dove down low to complete the pass on Merritt going into turn 1.

Hendrix, who is a rookie in the Modified class, said this was his biggest victory yet.

"This is probably the biggest win of my career," said the Buckhorn driver in his victory lane interview. "I don't even know what to say.
This is awesome."

Meanwhile, it took 6 heat races and 2 B-Mains to sort out the contenders from the pretenders amongst the 42 cars that entered into Factory Stock competition Tuesday night. Kris Jackson held off a hard charge by Tim Brown to win his fourth feature in a row at Lebanon I-44 Speedway. Jackson lead most of the race, but Brown got another shot at him after a late caution.

"We're obviously putting a good motor together… something that isn't going to break," he said about contributing factors to his success.
"Its teamwork."

Ben Solberg finished third, ahead of Lonnie Henderson and George Meyer.

This Saturday night at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway, come on out for fireworks and racing. Late Model, Modified, Factory Stock, B-Modified, Bomber and Rookie classes will race beginning at 730PM, with Lebanon's biggest fireworks display during intermission. Gates open at 5PM. Grandstand admission is $12, Wildside $15, Juniors 13-15 $5, and kids 12 and under are free.
