Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (August 18, 2014) – The IMCA Sport Modified will take center stage this Saturday night with the Inaugural Sport Modified Mayhem event atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas.

Expected to bring in a stout field of competitors, the Inaugural Sport Modified Mayhem feature event will offer up a $1,000 winner’s share.

In addition to Sport Modified Mayhem, Saturday’s tilt at Dodge City Raceway Park includes a full slate of championship chase action including IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets with the green flag flying at 7:30 p.m.

Defending IMCA Sport Modified track champion Jeff Kaup of Woodward, OK, enters Saturday’s Sport Modified Mayhem event with a hot hand after topping the most recent pair of events atop DCRP clay, running his season total to four wins and extending his points lead to 104 points over Dodge City’s Josh Appel.

While Kaup holds a healthy advantage in the title chase, the battle for positions in his wake rages on with Appel just 12 points ahead of Toby Witthuhn with Austin Walker and Jason Lunow also among the top five.

With a number of invaders expected to vie for the $1,000 Sport Modified Mayhem winner’s share on Saturday, others currently in the top ten in track points include Tristen Barton, Randle McRoberts, Brian May, Mike Appel and Bart Baker.

On the IMCA Sport Mod win charts at DCRP this season, Kaup has tallied four while Josh Appel has one with other winners including Mike Shenberger on two occasions along with single wins by Clay Money and Nate Ginest.

While points along with added money are on the line for the Sport Mods, only one night of competition remains after Saturday’s card for all five divisions that also includes the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets.

Coupling his win along with Ryan Heger’s opening lap tumble this past Saturday night, Wichita’s Austin Allen opened up a 44 point advantage in the IMCA Modified title chase with Cole Traugott, Nick Link and Kale Beavers among the top five.

Perry Misner holds a 68-point advantage over Dusty Witthuhn in the IMCA Stock Car ranks, William Bauer and Matt O’Hair are deadlocked for the top spot in Thunder Car points and Jarett Lunow has a commanding lead in Hornet points as he remains undefeated thus far.

Tickets to Saturday’s Inaugural Sport Modified Mayhem event are just $12 for adults with children 11 and under free when accompanied by an adult.
