UMP Sportsman Cars Heading For The Springfield Mile

It's almost time for the Sportsman Nationals race to be held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds again in 2009. The Sportsman will be running on the Springfield Mile Sunday, August 23, 2009 in conjunction with the ARCA Allen Crowe Memorial. The Sportsman will have five qualifying races leading up to the August 23 race. Twenty drivers will earn a starting spot in the one-mile race, the rest of the field will be determined by a last chance race that will be ran prior to the Sportsman Nationals feature event. The top four finishers in each race will be guaranteed entry into the Sportsman Nationals. Dennis Vandermeersch of Springfield, IL is sure to be on hand trying to make himself the Sportsman Nationals champion for the second straight year.

The following dates and tracks have been selected to determine the field. First up is Macon Speedway on July 11 followed by July 18 at Fairbury Speedway. The Sportsman will then have the chance to qualify at Morgan County Speedway on July 31. The last two dates will be held on August 1 at Macon Speedway and the final event at Shepp’s Speedway on August 2.

This Saturday, July 11 will be Touchstone Energy Night at Macon Speedway featuring a $500 to win feature! All of our regular divisions; Late Models, Modifieds, Touchstone Energy Sportsman, Street Stocks and Hornets will be back in action. Gates open at 5; Late Model qualifications are at 7.
