AKRON, Ohio (Nov. 1, 2002) – Goodyear and the Sprints On Dirt sprint car racing series have announced the series will continue the use of Goodyear tires for the next two seasons.

The Goodyear D1184, which made its series debut in 2002, will continue as the official right rear tire for SOD competition in 2003 and 2004.

“The Sprints On Dirt series is an excellent showcase for our sprint car racing program,” said Paul Lauritzen, Goodyear’s operations manager for dirt racing. “The 2002 season was exciting and the men and women of Goodyear are happy to be a part of the action for the next two seasons.”

The series competes on tracks located mostly in the upper Midwest.

SOD president Jason Fausey said, “The D1184 that Goodyear has been providing is a great tire. We have not had a single tire failure since we have been using this tire. Plus, the tire is hard enough to last several races if the race teams need it to. It is a great all around tire. It hooks up great on the dry-slick tracks, as well as the tacky ones. Reliability is what we need in a spec tire, and the
D1184 has exceeded all expectations."

Competition Tire West, located at Michigan International Speedway in
Brooklyn, MI will provide Goodyear tires for the series.

“This is a win-win situation for both parties involved” said Competition Tire West representative Fred Devall. “Not only do we get to provide the SOD organization with a very good and dependable right rear tire, we have the chance to give the club some very important point fund money as well.”

The Sprints On Dirt racers will have an easier time planning their chassis and suspension settings knowing they have dependable, fast Goodyear tires everywhere they compete.
