Inside Line Promotions - PORT ROYAL, Pa. (April 22, 2014) - Trey Starks extended his streak of top 10s to four consecutive weekends in Central Pennsylvania.
Starks advanced from 14[sup]th[/sup] to an eighth-place result last Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. It also marked his fourth top 10 in five races against the famed Pennsylvania Posse.
He opened the night by qualifying 14[sup]th[/sup] quickest before he finished second in his heat race, which started Starks on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.
"We got a really good start," he said. "We were up to eighth right away."
Starks picked up a half-dozen positions in the first two laps. He then battled within the top 10 for the remainder of the race before ending eighth.
"I made a couple of mistakes," he said. "We could have maybe had a top-five finish, but I pulled the trigger too early on some passes. And then we made a mistake in lapped traffic. All in all, the car was really good and we ran a smooth race."
Saturday's race at Port Royal Speedway was more difficult as Starks ran into an issue midway through his heat race.
"We were running seventh halfway through the heat," he said. "I went in the corner and just about spun the thing out. It felt like I had a flat tire. I pulled it out of gear and we got a caution."
The crew looked it over in the work area and without a noticeable problem, Starks returned to restart last. He picked up a pair of positions in the final laps to finish sixth, which locked him into the main event.
"We came in from the heat and didn't wait to hook the water heater up until 15 minutes until the main," he said. "One of the water hoses started dumping out the bottom of it. We blew a water hose in the heat and didn't realize it. We couldn't get it fixed in time to push off. It was really hot and the motor never cooled down. If it was colder we would have figured it out earlier."
Starks was unable to start the main event.
He will return to Williams Grove Speedway this Friday and to Port Royal Speedway this Saturday for the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions events at the tracks.
