The nerves were obvious as the young St. Charles driver prepared to hot lap a USAC Silver Crown Champ Car for the first time in almost four years . By the second session Kyle was up on the wheel driving deep into turn three and sticking that big right rear on the cushion. The first lap of Kyle’s qualifying attempt was pretty exciting as Kyle drove the #12 Galas Racing machine deep into turn three and over the cushion mashed the petal and shot down the front stretch to huge ovation by the large crowd in the grand stands.Steffens pulled it together for his second lap and managed to qualify 25th out of 46 entries.

Kyle was able to transfer through the semi and ended up starting 22nd in the feature event . When asked what his expectations were Kyle said “I haven’t had a lot of time to think about it , I mean this deal did not even come together until Wednesday night when I was racing my late model at Tri City. Our goal coming in was to make the race and then I think should be able to run top ten . I know the Galas team will give me a good car”

When the feature started top ten didn’t look like it was going to be a problem as Kyle rocketed the famous number twelve past eleven cars in as many laps and had the fastest lap of the race so far . Steffens was in fact making a move on the back straight for the tenth spot on the thirteenth circuit when the number 99 of Paul White came up the track making contact with the left front Kyle’s car ending his great run early.

Mr. Steffens effort definitely did not go unnoticed as many drivers , owners and USAC officials commented on his performance. Also impressed was the Galas family .After the race Kyle’s seemed a little surprised when Jeff Galas asked him to keep his seat in the car and asked him to run the car some more this year.

Kyle Steffens Motorsports and Galas racing will be getting together and tracks and dates will be announced .
