(FRANKLIN, INDIANA) The Steve Barnett Racing team will head south on I-65 to the Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN this weekend. The annual ‘Indiana Icebreaker’ is on tap at the ¼-mile oval on the site of the Jackson County Fairgrounds in south-central Indiana this weekend. A $2,500 to win feature event will headline the Saturday night action on the black ice at Brownstown. Steve finished seventh in last year’s version of the ‘Indiana Icebreaker’ after transferring to the feature through his consolation race. “The Franklin Flyer” kicked off the O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series portion of his schedule last weekend at the Florence Speedway in Union, KY. Steve will be competing for the championship in the BoB Series this season, but his quest to become champion got off to a rocky start. After finishing second in his heat race on Friday night, Steve was running a solid seventh in the $3,000 to win feature event until he was involved in an incident on the front straightaway. His J.D. Byrider / Tony Stewart Motorsports #89 GRT / Cornett Monte Carlo sustained front end damage and he was forced to retire from the event. He wound up twentieth at the pay window.

Saturday night was even worse for Steve and the team, as the failed to transfer to the annual ‘Spring 50’ feature event. Steve was “fairly good” throughout the night, but could only muster a fifth place finish in his heat race and a third place finish in the consolation event. Both finishes were not good enough to put Steve into the show. The Franklin, Indiana driver is currently tied for twenty-first in the BoB Series point standings after two events.

“I am not totally bummed out over last weekend because we have never been that good at Florence,” stated Barnett in a phone conversation on Monday. “I have struggled over there in the past and actually we ran better this past weekend then I have lately. We were going to have a top ten finish on Friday until I got into that wreck. It was no ones fault but my own. It is a long season and we have plenty of time to gain back some of those points.”
