SAN FELIPE PUEBLO, NM (March 8) – The O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series has run five feature races at Hollywood Hills Speedway and Steve Kinser has won them all.

“The King of the Outlaws” led all 25 laps in the Preliminary Feature Saturday when the series opened a $95,350 double-feature event at the year-old racing facility.

“We’ve been running pretty good here at this track,” Kinser said Saturday. “We had a good qualifying spot and got a good starting spot in the feature, but we still have one more night to go here so we’ll just have to see what happens.”

Kinser worked his way into “good starting spots” in all five races – he has started on the first two rows each time. “The King of the Outlaws” was the fifth-fastest qualifier in Saturday’s 33-car qualifying session and earned the right to start the Preliminary Feature outside the front row by winning the Second Dash Race. It was his second dash victory of the season.

Brian Paulus delayed the start of the feature when his #28 Verdelli Farms Maxim spun in the second corner early in the opening lap. Kinser raced around pole-sitter Craig Dollansky as the green flag replaced the yellow to take the lead.

Jac Haudenschild and Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year candidate Jason Sides exchanged third place during the first two laps.

Kinser was approaching lapped traffic four laps into the race when Shawn Chaney crashed into the retaining wall and stopped in turn one. Shane Stewart, the runner-up in the World of Outlaws Gumout Series standings a year ago, passed three cars during the first five laps before taking over eighth place with an inside move past Joey Saldana through the third and fourth corners.

O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series points leader Danny Lasoski was challenging Mark Kinser for fifth place when Kraig Kinser (Steve’s son) stopped in turn three with ignition problems late in the eighth lap. Mark Kinser started battling Sides for fourth place as the race resumed.

“The King of the Outlaws” controlled the restart and opened an eight-car-length advantage over Dollansky by the time he caught the back-markers midway through the race. The 2000 Gumout Series champion caught Kinser in dense lapped traffic within a lap, however.

Dollansky steered Karavan Racing’s #7 VMAC Maxim deep in turn one to pass Kinser early in the 15th lap. “The King of the Outlaws” regained the lead several seconds later when Dollansky drifted out of the low groove in the second corner.

Sides and “The Wild Child” exchanged third place during laps 15 and 23. Sides drove the #7S Aramark Maxim into the low groove in turn four to pass Haudenschild, only to have “The Wild Child” come back with an inside move between the third and fourth corners to regain the position eight laps later.

Jeff Shepard steered the #11H Vivarin Maxim into the low groove between turns one and two to pass Lasoski for sixth place with 6 2/3 laps remaining. “The Dude” came back with an inside move in the fourth corner to claim the position as they headed for the checkered flag.

Kinser was 15 car-lengths ahead of Dollansky when he claimed the $5,000 first prize. Haudenschild, the runner-up in the 1995 O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series championship battle, closed to within six points of first place in the point standings by finishing third. Sides finished in fourth place, ahead of Mark Kinser, Lasoski, Shepard, Randy Hannagan, 19th-starting Daryn Pittman and Saldana.

Donny Schatz won the "B" Feature, then drove his #15 Parker Stores J&J into 12th place from outside the ninth row.

Lasoski sliced .003 seconds off the single-lap record Brad Furr set at Hollywood Hills Speedway last March 10th. “The Dude” drove NASCAR Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart’s #20 J.D. Byrider Eagle around the semi-banked, 3/8-mile oval in 12.746 seconds, an average speed of 105.916 M.P.H. It was the third time in the first five racing programs Lasoski has paced the qualifying session. WoO
