Lap leaders: Steve Kinser 1-25

SEDALIA (April 11, 2003) - The Winged Outlaw Warriors kicked off their fourth season Friday night at State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, MO. The near perfect weather led to packed grandstands at the historic ½ mile. Tonight's heat race winners were Peters, Alley, Doogs, and Ball. Eric Jobe won the B Feature this evening.

Jake Peters jumped out to an early lead on lap one and started pulling away immediately. By the end of lap 2, Tony Stewart moved up to fourth position after starting in eighth. On lap 4, Larry Ball Jr., who was second place at the time, spun out in turn 4 and made contact with the wall. He would not continue. On the restart, Peters once again pulled out to a comfortable lead. Randy Martin would pass Nichols and Chappell to move into the fifth spot. Stewart bypassed the #22 of Alley the following lap for second place.

By lap 8, Peters had a straightaway lead on 2002 Winston Cup Champion, Tony Stewart. The following the leaders began to encounter some lapped traffic. The gap between Stewart and Peters shriveled to three car lengths by lap 13. Meanwhile, Eric Jobe flipped coming out of turn four bringing out the red flag.

This would set up a seven-lap shootout. Peters, Stewart, Chappell, Martin, and Alley made up the top five at this point. On the restart Tony was able to get by Peters. Stewart would go on and claim the victory, winning by a comfortable margin. Zach Chappell and Randy Martin would also get by Peters in the closing laps to finish second and third respectively.

Jake Peters would have to settle for fourth. Tracy Nichols passed Billy Alley on lap 16 to move into the fifth position.

The WOW will be in action again next Friday night in Jacksonville, Ill.
