While I have never been a big NASCAR fan and I certainly wouldn't want a steady diet of it, Tony's performance in the chase was spectacular. Winning five of the final ten races of the season served to give notice to the competition that racing against Tony Stewart isn't for sissies.
It's hard to believe that so many of the laps of the chase saw Edwards and Stewart racing together on the track. When the points were all tallied, Tony and Carl Edwards had the same number; and they had to go to a tie-breaker to decide the winner.
The two drivers drove each other hard and clean. Following the race Edwards admitted that he had tried everything to get past Tony; and he just couldn't do it.
It looked as if that last race might trash Tony's drive for his third championship. Debris came through his grille and cost Tony a lot of track position. However, each time misfortune sent him to the back, he charged back to the front going three and four wide. It was like he willed the car to stay stuck to the track.
What made the day more special to Tony had to be A.J. Foyt's saying that he was honored to have Tony's car carrying the number 14; and Tony was equally proud to carry Foyt's number.
Don't miss the awards banquet at 9:00 p.m. on December 2nd.

STEWART CHAMPIONSHIP CARS ON DISPLAY AT KNOXVILLE
If your holiday travel plans will take you anywhere near Iowa, consider taking a detour through Knoxville, Iowa, home of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Museum. Tony has been collecting his championship cars; and they will be on display at the museum until December 31, 2011.
The display of Stewart cars includes the 1995 United States Auto Club National Midget Series Beast, the 1995 United States Auto Club Nationl Sprint Car Series Boles/Niebel Sprint Car, the 1995 United State Auto Club Boles/Niebel Silver Crown car, the 1997 Indy Racing League (IRL) Indy Car, the 2005 NASCAR stock car, and the 2006 International Race of Champions (IROC) stock car.
These aren't warmed over show cars. They are the actual cars that Tony raced. You could probably put fuel and oil in them and race them now.
If you're looking for a gift for your Tony fan, colorful, commemorative T shirts are available from the museum's website (sprintcarhof.com) or by calling 641-842-6176.
