Lonnie Wheatley, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 1, 2018) – It all comes down to a pair of weekends out west.

Tyler Courtney and the Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing Priority Aviation No. 7bc USAC Sprint Car team take aim at the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car crown beginning with this weekend’s 51st Annual Western World Championships at San Tan Valley’s Arizona Speedway.

The two-day tilt on Friday and Saturday precedes next weekend’s season-ender for the USAC Sprint Cars at Perris Auto Speedway’s Oval Nationals.

Courtney enters this weekend atop the series win charts with ten USAC Sprint Car scores and is just 34 points out of the lead.

“Sunshine” crossed the stripe fifth during both nights of last year’s Western World Championships.

Two weekends of Sprint Car action follow after Courtney’s most recent run, a third-place showing at the USAC Midget “Jason Leffler Memorial” at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, IL, on Sunday, October 21.

His 40th overall top-five of the 2018 season pushed him to fourth in USAC Midget points aboard the Clauson-Marshall Racing Driven2SaveLives/Indiana Donor Network No. 7bc entry.

“Sunshine” began the Leffler Memorial with a heat race win and back it up with a qualifying race win to earn the third starting position for the 40-lap feature event.

Courtney was in the lead mix throughout before ultimately settling for third at the stripe.

“We were good, we just needed a little extra to show him (Tyler Thomas) a nose and make him starting thinking a little bit but we couldn’t quite get there,” Courtney commented. “My guys worked their tails off again to give me a good car. Now we’ve got some more big races to try to get some good wins at.”

Already with 13 overall wins to his credit in 2018, “Sunshine” tries to add to that total with the West Coast stretch that begins with this weekend’s Western World Championships at Arizona Speedway.

2018 Quick Stats:

Overall: 67 races, 13 wins, 40 top-fives, 50 top-tens.
