Inside Line Promotions - NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (Aug. 30, 2018) - One little bolt cost Zac Taylor a shot at a midget win last Saturday at Lincoln County Raceway.

Taylor was running second and chasing down the leader with 10 laps remaining when he noticed something didn't feel right on a restart.

"My engine normally takes a little bit to get going so I dropped to the bottom until I got my momentum up," he said. "When I went into the turn the front end didn't act right. I pulled it out of gear and went to the infield. We found a broken titanium bolt on the right front lower radius rod had broken. The head broke off. It is a freak deal."

Taylor started the night charging from fifth to a second-place finish aboard the Todd Henry owned midget in the heat race. He rolled off ninth in the feature and quickly moved into the top five.

"As soon as the feature went green I got up to fifth and was running the bottom," he said. "Then Keith Rauch flew by me on the top and I knew my car was set up similar to his so I went up there and really started moving. Keith and I were running first and second before that bolt broke.

"The good news is for the first time ever at that track we had awesome speed and have something to come back with next year."

Unfortunately, Taylor, who was credited with a 15th-place result, recently experienced an injury in a non-racing incident and he will miss the remainder of the 2018 racing season.

"I'm going to work out and get ready for the Chili Bowl," he said. "We will have our good engine back by then and I'll be in good shape and ready to go. We had a great Chili Bowl in 2018 and I can't wait to improve on that this coming January."
