This is the first of many questions for the tech guys so I don't do something stupid. The rules state we can not use shock type bumpers. Mustangs have this type of bumper mounts. If I drill a hole in it and put a shear pin in it it will not be a shock anymore. I could cut the back end off so it would be obvious that it was not working as a shock. It is still a shock type but it is not acting as one. Would this be acceptable by our rules?

Thanks

I have an s-10 which doesn't have those type bumpers but I seen the fords with either a hole drilled with a bolt ran through it or welded up. So as long as you disable the shock bumper from working you are good as far as I know.

Bolts-n-Bumpers

The bolt method worked for us, grade 8 bolts work better than the cheap ones:)

be careful when "cutting" or welding that shock bumper cause it is gas charged (does make a good POP when it explodes) yeah wolf 's car has a simialar set up on his front bumper with a bolt working as a shear pin... check where the bumper mounts to the frame sometimes on these cars they rust their and since the bumper won't have a "shock" these places will have extra stress on them other than that GET THAT FORD BUILT you got to beat that ol' chevy up there or else us FORD guy are going to be forced to ruff you up:D :D :D

Thanks for the warning Smurf. I know that drilling a shock is not the smartest thing to do but I am on a low buget here, I need to use everything I can without buying new.

Question #2.......The motor I took apart today had water in it. The intake side of the head has rust and gunk in it. What can I do to clean it out without breaking the porting or polishing rule? I have a wire brush that goes on my die grinder but that will give a slight polish to the passage. I can take it to work and sand blast the passages but I don't want to do that because I don't wand a piece of grit in my cam bearings. Taking it to the machine shop and having it hot tanked is out because that means new cam bearings and the ones that are in there look OK. Yes, a smart guy would have it hot tanked and magnafluxed. I never claimed to be smart though.
