Haubstadt, IN - July 24, 2014. The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will swing back into action on Saturday August 2nd. The occasion will be the 10th annual Hoosier Sprint Nationals at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. The feature will pay $5,000 to the winner. It is one of the two longest feature races on this year’s MSCS schedule. The Hoosier Sprint Nationals and the Haubstadt Hustler in September are both 40 laps in distance.

The additional purse, the additional laps, the early August date, the passing points format, and the opportunity to claim a national’s title in Hoosierland are all likely factors that have contributed to making this race an ongoing and popular attraction for fans and competitors. Eight Hoosier Sprint National events have been held to date and eight different drivers have posted a win. The title has been earned once and then passed along to another driver the next season.

Kevin Briscoe holds the distinction of winning the very first Hoosier Sprint Nationals. Kevin Thomas Jr. won last year’s edition. The Alabama driver won four MSCS features during the 2013 season. Former winners ranked in the top 15 in MSCS points this year include Brady Short, Jon Stanbrough, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Daron Clayton.

Kyle Cummins continues to lead in Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series points. The Princeton, IN, driver has finished either second, third, or fourth in the last four MSCS features. He is getting closer and closer to a win this season.

One obstacle in the path of the road to victory for anyone else recently has been a white number 12 sprint car. The driver Robert Ballou has been collecting win after win. His current streak of MSCS victories stands at three in a row. He is currently “the man” to beat. Ballou has now moved up to third in the series points standings. MSCS 2013 Rookie of the Year Bradley Sterrett stands second in points. The top three drivers are less than 50 points apart with 70 on the line at each race held.

No driver has won the Hoosier Sprint Nationals race and gone on to become the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series Points Champion that same season. Maybe this will be the year! Five active drivers will also have an opportunity to become a first time repeat winner.

Jeff Bland Jr. and Brandon Mattox round out the top five in MSCS points. Bland has two feature wins this season and Mattox is enjoying a very competitive season. The second five includes Carson Short, Brady Short, Chase Stockon, James Lyerla, and Daylan Chambers.
Aaron Farney is eleventh. Lyerla, Chambers, and Farney are all three competing to become the 2014 MSCS Rookie of the Year.

The UMP Open Wheel Modifieds will also be competing on August 2nd.
The pit gate will open at 3:30 P.M. C.D.T. with the stands to open an hour later. Hot laps begin at 6:30 with heat races beginning at 7:30. Additional information can be found at www.tristatespeedway.com or www.mscssprints.com.
