TULSA OK. Terry Phillips is back on a hot streak with the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mid-America Racing Series. Phillips picked up his third win in a row, taking the checkers Friday night at the Tulsa Speedway. Phillips inherited the lead after front-runner Leslie Essary had to park his car with a heating problem. Phillips then dueled with Wendell Wallace before coming home with the win.

Leslie Essary held the pole, with Charlie Randolph to his outside. Randolph and Essary rode side by side for the first lap, with Randolph edging into the lead in turn four. Wendell Wallace, Terry Phillips, and Joey Mack were behind the front pair. Essary rode the high side to take the lead from Randolph in turn two on the third lap.

Phillips and Wallace dueled side by side for third on lap five, before Raymond Merrill brought out the caution, stopped in turn three.

Phillips shot into third on the restart, then worked under Randolph for second in turn four on lap six. Justin Fulton and Brook Phillips brought out the yellow on lap seven as they tangled on the backstretch. Leslie Essary surrendered the lead during the caution, pitting with an overheating car.

Phillips was on the point as the field restarted. Shane Essary moved past Joey Mack to the fourth spot, then Jack Sullivan was fifth on lap 8. Sullivan bested Essary for fourth one lap later. Wendell Wallace drove by Randolph for second in turn four on lap 11. Jeff Taylor had worked to fifth, then passed Sullivan for the fourth spot on lap 12.

The frontrunners were starting to see traffic, and Wallace started to close the gap on Phillips by lap 15. The front pair were starting to work heavy traffic by lap 17, and were side by side by lap 18. Jeff Taylor had caught the front pair as well, and the top three were tight by the halfway point in the race.

Wendell Wallace worked past Phillips, and lead lap 22, but Phillips was able to get back by on lap 23 as the track had cleared. Shane Essary brought out the caution on lap 24, as he was into the backstretch wall, just out of turn two.

Joey Mack got by Randolph on the restart, and was pressuring Jeff Taylor for third. Mack got a good run on Taylor in turn two on lap 25, and came away with the spot. Randy Timms took over fifth on lap 28.

Phillips was pacing the field by 15 carlengths by lap 30, and was a half straight ahead on lap 33, when the caution came out for John Ewell, who had gotten turne around in turn two.

Phillips was a rocket ship again after the restart, and drove away from the field as the laps wore down. Terry Phillips came away with the win, with Wendell Wallace, Joey Mack, Jeff Taylor, and Randy Timms making up the top five. Charlie Randolph, Bill Frye, Jack Sullivan, John Ewell, and Steve Rushin rounded out the top ten.
