WHEATLAND MO. Terry Phillips tore through another night of racing on the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mid-America Racing Series. Phillips was dominant the entire night, lapping up to the nineth place car in a feature that was only slowed by one caution.
Bill Frye was the night's top qualifier, with Phillips to his outside. Phillips shot to the lead as the green flag appeared, with Frye, Scott Drake, Wendell Wallace, and Joey Mack falling in behind. Wallace drove by Drake in turn four on the opening lap to take third. Mike Brown took the fifth position from Mack in turn two on lap three.
Phillips had blown out to a fifteen carlength advantage by lap five, and was a half straightaway ahead by lap seven. Phillips was starting to lap slower cars by lap nine.
T.J. Kunkendall was the only thing that could slow Phillips' progress, as he brought out a lap twelve caution as he got turned around in turn two.
Wendell Wallace took advantage of the race's lone restart, to go by Frye into second. Phillips was back to a ten carlenght advantage by lap 16.
Scott Drake and Steve Rushin were racing side by side for the fourth spot on lap 17, and Rushin took the spot in turn two on lap 19. Phillips was back to lapping back markers by lap 20.
Phillips was facing cars racing three wide ahead of him on lap 23, but cleared those cars by lap 25, and was a half straightaway ahead of Wallace at that point in the race. Peyton Taylor raced past Drake for fifth on lap 25.
Phillips had four more slower cars to deal with by lap 26. Wallace and Frye were close for the second spot on lap 28, but Wallace worked the traffic better, and had opened a ten carlenght margin on Frye by lap 32.
Terry Phillips drove out to a full straightaway lead as the laps wore down, and came home with his fourth consequtive win. Wendell Wallace, Bill Frye, Steve Rushin, and Peyton Taylor made up the top five. Scott Drake, Jeff Taylor, Mike Brown, Charlie Randolph, and Rex McCroskey rounded out the top five.
