Night number one of Late Model Thunder 2005 kicked off with a familiar name in victory lane, but it wasn’t the same Kosiski that has dominated O’Reilly Auto Parts Topless Outlaw Racing Association events in the past. Joe Kosiski, older brother of defending champion Steve Kosiski, worked his way past Ted Martin near the halfway mark to earn the A qualifier win.

Ryan McAninch started from the pole of the 20 lap dash to determine the inside 8 rows of Saturday’s A Feature after moving from seventh to second in his heat race. On the start McAninch jumped out front early before outside pole sitter Martin powered past in turn 2. Martin led lap one before a caution came out for Steven Bowers Jr. who came to a stop in turn 3. On the restart Delbert Smith spun in turn 2 to bring out another quick yellow.

On the restart Martin led the charge, followed by McAninch, Joe Kosiski, John Hampel, and Jim Clifton. On lap 5 Joe Kosiski worked his way past McAninch and began reeling in Martin. On lap 8 Doug Clark spun his car to the bottom of turn 4 to bring out another yellow.

Martin led once again as the field took the green, but only made it to 10 when the elder Kosiski hopped his 53 to the front. John Anderson moved his car into second a lap later before the final yellow flew for Gary Billings who stopped in turn 2.

Kosiski held off Anderson on the restart and powered away, taking the win in front of Anderson, Martin, McAninch, and Clifton.

Martin won heat race one ahead of Hampel and Darrick Klima. Clifton held off a hard charging McAninch to win heat two with Bowers Jr. in third. Joe Kosiski owned heat 3 ahead of Leon Zeitner and Anderson, while Smith won heat 4 in front of Corey Zeitner and Greg Larsen.
