The 28th Annual North/South 100 Set for August 12-14 at Florence Speedway Paying $50,000 to Win

CORONA, CA (August 9, 2010) – The 28th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products will be held at Florence Speedway in Union, KY on August 12-14. A crown jewel event in dirt late model racing that will pay $50,000 to win and $2500 to start and will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI is the defending race winner after a last-lap pass on Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN to win last year’s edition of the race.

Activities will get underway on Thursday Night, August 12th with an open practice session with gates opening at 5 PM and practice lasting until 9 PM. Then on Friday Night, August 13th it will be the Red Buck Cigars Time Trials for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, and the weekend will conclude on Saturday Night, August 14th with six heat races, B-Mains and the 100-lap main event with the winner pocketing a cool $50,000.

Before the racing action beings on Saturday Night, the 10th Annual National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Ceremonies will be held beginning at 6 PM. Inductees for 2010 include; Ernie Derr, Mike Head, Steve Kosiski, Roger Long, Bobby Paul, Billy Scott, the Thomas Family and Ronnie Weedon. Freddy Smith will also be receiving the Sportsman Award and the 2009 Area Auto Racing News Driver of the Year will also be announced.

Reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN leads the championship point’s standings heading to Florence this weekend. Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN is second in points followed by Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC and Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN.

Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA leads the second half of the top ten into this weekend’s Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 followed by Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN, Chris Wall of Springfield, LA, Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV.

Wall leads Eric Wells of Hazard, KY and Tim Isenberg of Marshfield, WI on the race for the 2010 Quarter Master “Rookie of the Year” points standings.

Josh Williams of West Harrison, IN leads the Florence Speedway weekly Late Model points standings as he his looking for his first ever track title at the venerable half-mile track. Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, IN is second in Florence points followed by Jesse James Lay of Verona, KY, Jerry Rice also of Verona, KY and defending track champion, Brandon Green of Walton, KY.

The rest of the top ten heading into the $50,000 to win event this weekend are; Audie McWilliams of Walton, KY, Steve Landrum of Erlanger, KY, Tim Prince of Heltonville, IN, Bill Blair Jr. of Amelia, OH and David Spille of West Harrison, IN.
