LaSalle, IL - Dixon’s Tim Hamburg collected his third Xtreme Late Model victory at LaSalle Speedway Saturday night. The evenings events marked the conclusion of the points chase for the 2004 season and cleaned the slate for the remaining four events at the speedway.

With points tight in nearly every position of each of the four divisions, competition was at its fiercest the entire night.

Hamburg started the Late Model 25-lap feature on the front row and held off attempts by pole sitter Darin Furar of Granville and Skip Martin of McHenry. Twenty competitors hit the fast 1/4 mile high banks for the main event.

The action was quick to get underway and most of the front runners were able to hold their positions flag to flag.

When the checkered dropped it was Martin ending his run second to Hamburg. Furar held back a hard charging Mike Glynn of LaSalle from his ninth place start to take home third.

Former track champion Frank Reaber, of Bensenville, finished fifth to beat out last years champion Ryan Dauber of Tonica. A bit symbolic as Reaber may have managed to claim this season’s points championship even though Dauber posted six feature wins to Reaber’s two. Reaber’s consistency in all preliminary and feature events helped him to secure the title. The official points standing for the speedway were unavailable at press time.

Dauber, however, was still in second for the national Xtreme DirtCar Weekly Series points over Reaber according to the Xtreme website of www.xtremedirtcars.com.

Elmhurst’s Jim Partipilo, Tom Newquist, Matt Slager, Oglesby’s Billy Weistart Jr., Burbank’s Joe Burba, Tim Brach, Rich Bell, Larry LeGrand, and Scott Johnson rounded out the top fifteen finishers.

Furar did an excellent job outdistancing the top six qualifiers to win the Dash over Hamburg, Reaber and Fiene. Bell won the first Heat over Brach, LeGrand and Joe Partipilo. Glynn won the fast Heat without contest in front of Jim Partipilo, Hamburg and Newquist. Dauber posted the fastest lap with a time of 13.061.

Eric Dauber of Tonica reeled in another victory and sealed the points title for the Midwestern Late Model division. Eighteen drivers signed in to end the season’s points for the ultra competitive class.

Last week’s winner, Dan Thryselius, finished second to Eric over Streator’s Shane Hill, Eric Rebholz, Ralph Markham of Maple Park, John Piccatto of Spring Valley, Mark Jilbert, Cody Sommer, Peru’s Joe Adam, Rob Voice, Brian Ray, Mick Miller, Jerry Vance, Wally Forsythe and Oglesby’s Keith Piano.

Hill earned quick time with a lap of 13.937. Sommer won his Heat in front of Vance, Adam, and Forsythe. Ray took the second Heat win with Miller, Dauber and Jilbert finishing behind him.

Piano played double duty by driving in both the Midwestern Late’s and the Midwesteren Sportsman division. He continued his winning ways of an impressive season by sweeping the Sportsman class with his Heat and Feature wins.

Sharon Schlappi finished runner up for the feature in front of Scott Cimei, Aaron Schmitt, Duane Peterson, Daryll Grandys, Tina Soberri, Dan Goodhand, Brian Claudnic, Fleety Beltz, BJ Grabow, Jake Patterson and Duane McCarville.

Twenty two Street Stocks were in attendance with Scott Schmitt wining his second feature in a row.

Dan Filkowski picked up second place ahead of Tom Legner, Gary Schmitt, Charles Herhold, Robert Schlappi, Chuck Provenzano, Jeff Busch, Chuck Leason, Nick Sell, Jerry Legner, John Peterson, Tom Otrembiak, Jay Mesarchick and Brent Carlson.

Now with the points races over the teams can get back to just racing and enjoying the hobby without the added pressure of their season points finishes. Next week, a full program is on the schedule with Back to School Night and an adult general admission of $5.
