WILL HISTORY REPEAT IN MAY 25 HOOSIER HUNDRED?

Five times since 1953, the Hoosier Hundred has been contested in a year-ending in the number seven.* In four of those events, a first-time winner crossed the finish line, while in the other, a repeat victor had to battle a rookie fast qualifier and a unique engine in order to secure the victory.

What will happen in 2017 is yet to be determined as the largest expected field in over a decade, with a large number of first year teams, invades the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the traditional Hoosier Hundred on Thursday, May 25, as part of USAC’s “Week of Indy” for the Silver Crown Champ Car Series.

Race day in 1957 was sunny and mild for the fifth running of Jo Quinn’s creation on the Indiana mile.* Jimmy Bryan had won the last three Hoosier Hundred races while mechanic Clint Brawner and owner Al Dean won the first race as well with Bob Sweikert.* A fifth consecutive Dean Van Lines win appeared likely as Bryan would start fifth on race day.* However, front row starters Jud Larson and Johnny Thomson stole the show with Thomson leading the first 57 laps from the outside front row before giving way to “Earth Mover” Larson who set a new track record in qualifications. *The big Okie beat Bryan to the line and set a new 100-mile record in the process.* Missing the show was none other than rookie A.J. Foyt.

Foyt was hardly a rookie in 1967, having won the 500 three times along with four national championships.* His chief rival was two-time national champion and defending Hoosier Hundred winner Mario Andretti.* Bruce Walkup smashed the track record in qualifying in a car built by Grant King and carrying a normally aspirated Ford V-8 Indy Car engine.* Andretti lined up second with Foyt third as the two were locked in battle for the national title.* Walkup led the first 14 before Mario took over and unlike last year when he inherited a late lead as Foyt’s brake pedal broke, Andretti dominated the remaining 86 circuits giving owner Al Dean and chief wrench Clint Brawner their record sixth win in the prestigious event.

Mario and Bobby Unser were gone from dirt track racing by 1977 and so were the mighty uprights from the championship trail having formed their own series in 1971.* USAC’s Dirt Track Division still drew large fields and big names as evidenced by Foyt, Al Unser, Johnny Rutherford and Jim Hurtubise appearing on the entry list.* Second generation driver Pancho Carter won the pole with a time just over 35 seconds while Big Al held on the 24th and final spot.* Foyt, Rutherford and Herk were among those too slow to make the top 24, however, promoter Don Smith added the first ever last chance race in the history of the Dirt Division due to the large entry list.* Steve Chassey won the semi while Foyt and Herk were eliminated in a third turn shunt with Arnie Knepper, the accident marking the first time since 1957 that A.J. missed the show.* Pancho bolted from the pole in the finale and was never headed giving the Hoosier Hundred another first-time winner.

Jack Hewitt came to the 1987 Hoosier Hundred having won practically everything in the now named Silver Crown Series.* He won all the dirt races in 1986 and two on the dirt miles in 1987 so far.* Combined with the Silver Crown machines was the USAC Midget series and the prestigious Hut Hundred, the first time it had ever been contested on a mile.* 1984 USAC champ Dave Blaney set a new track record as the fastest of 48 cars with Jeff Swindell starting second.** Hewitt lined up fifth as Blaney jumped to the lead at the start and appeared to have the machine to beat.* On the 85th lap, Blaney slid high and Kenny Jacobs sailed by leading the final laps for his first-ever series victory.

By 1997, economic conditions forced promoter A.J. Foyt and the Foyt group to move the Hoosier Hundred from its traditional September date to the May date occupied by the Hulman 100, two nights before the Indianapolis 500.* The first race on dirt for the Silver Crown cars brought a large 500 weekend crowd out and a big entry list to boot.* Indiana’s own Russ Gamester set fast time while two-time winner Chuck Gurney started second.* Gamester led the first 26 before Gurney took over through lap 81.* Much to the delight of a partisan crowd Hoosier native Chuck Leary took the lead from Gurney and was never headed, becoming a first-time winner of the Hoosier Hundred.

Even when Mother Nature intervenes, the Hoosier Hundred makes history.* In 2007, thirty-two cars drew for qualifications and just as it appeared things would be ready for time trials, the skies opened up and turned the track into a quagmire.* A suitable rain date was not available, and for the first time in history, the Hoosier Hundred was not contested.

Who enters the 2017 edition as one of the favorites?* The field could be wide open and a large entry list is expected May 25.* Kody Swanson could make history that day.* Last year he joined Al Unser and Jimmy Bryan as drivers who won three consecutive Hoosier Hundred races.* This year, he could join Unser as the only two to win four in a row.

Defending USAC Silver Crown champ Chris Windom broke through the barrier and won his first 100-mile race at Du Quoin last September.* He won the April opener at Terre Haute and could be a first-time winner at the Indiana State Fairgrounds May 25.* Others in the hunt could include three-time winner Dave Darland, two-time Du Quoin winner Shane Cockrum, C.J. Leary (the son of the 1997 winner), USAC Sprint champ Brady Bacon and second-generation driver Casey Shuman.

Hoosier Hundred Rookie Contender From…North Carolina?

The Tar Heel state may be known for stock car racing, but open wheel racers from North Carolina aren’t the most common sight at an open wheel event, let along the Hoosier 100. But it looks like a North Carolina native, Johnny Petrozelle from Denton, North Carolina, will be traveling to the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the USAC Silver Crown annual Hoosier 100 on May 25.

Petrozelle, who will turn 27 on the day before the race, has been involved with racing since age 11, starting in WKA Champ Karts. He is a third-generation racer, with both of his grandfathers passing on the love of fast cars to the next generation. One grandfather owned a car, was a promoter, and published a racing publication that covered open wheel racing in Florida, as well as the East Coast. The other raced stock cars and midgets.

As noted, there was no open wheel presence in North Carolina, so Petrozelle began racing in the Allison Legacy Series, wheeling four-cylinder stock cars built and run by the famous NASCAR family. From there, he began a long association with Trevor Boys, a Canadian racer who had raced with NASCAR off and on through the 80s. Johnny drove the Boys open wheel modified on pavement for a few years.

“In 2012, the modified series went defunct. Trevor called me and said he had an old Gambler sprint car and if I could find anywhere to race it, he would let me keep it,” said Petrozelle. Not only did he keep it, Petrozelle raced the sprinter in a new sprint car series begun by Ray Evernham that same year.

“Ray wanted to promote sprint car racing in North Carolina. It couldn’t have come at a better time. I could race in the same discipline as my grandfathers and father had.”

In recent years Petrozelle has divided his time running sprints on dirt and pavement with the MustSee Sprint Series. But in 2016 he aligned himself with car owner Curt Cornell. A Silver Crown car was purchased from Hoosier car owner/superwrench Mike Dutcher and plans were made for Johnny to come north and race in the 2017 season’s opener at Terre Haute.

Petrozelle noted, “We made a ton of adjustments and we ended up 12th quick. During the race, I hooked a rut in turn three after about 30 laps and spun. I came back to finish 11th.”

Yet another impressive side of this young man is his sense of history. “My next race is the Hoosier 100. Probably the coolest part of Silver Crown racing is the history behind each track and event. We are entering all six dirt shows this year and are trying to figure out how to run the whole tour next year.”

With an awareness and attitude like that, especially from a racer from a place where stock cars rule, Johnny Petrozelle will be a welcome addition to the 2017 Hoosier 100 starting lineup.

On Thursday, May 25, fans will make the short trek to the east and the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the 63rd running of the Hoosier Hundred. The 100-mile race features the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series and, new this year, the Mid-American Stock Car Series. Not only does the Hoosier Hundred have a rich history, the Mid-American Stock Car competitors are looking forward to their first visit at the huge event.

Hoosier Hundred pit gates will open at 12:00, grandstands at 3:00, hotlaps start at 5:00, racing begins for Mid-Am at 7:00, with the Hoosier 100 scheduled for an 8:00 green flag. HOOSIER HUNDRED ENTRY LIST NEARS 40 FOR 63RD RUNNING OF GRAND EVENT ON MAY 25

The entry list for the 63rd running of the “Hoosier Hundred” is shaping up to be one of the most stacked fields in more than a decade.* Thus far, 39 drivers have already indicated their intentions to take part in the famed race on Thursday, May 25 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

The biggest storyline to keep an eye on is Kingsburg, California’s Kody Swanson as he goes for his fourth win in a row at the Hoosier Hundred.* After capturing the 2014, 2015 and 2016 editions, Swanson has a chance to equal what seemed like an untouchable record set by Al Unser from 1970 to 1973.

Tucson, Arizona’s Jerry Coons, Jr. sits second in Silver Crown series points behind Swanson heading into the “Week of Indy.”* Coons was victorious in the 2011 and 2012 Hoosier Hundred.

Dave Darland, one of USAC’s all-time greats, has an opportunity to earn his fifth career Silver Crown win on the Indy Mile in 2017.* The Lincoln, Indiana native won the “Hulman 100” back in 1995, then took wins in a trio of Hoosier Hundreds in 1995, 1996 and 2004

Jeff Swindell’s first Indy Mile victory came 30 years ago at the 1987 Hulman 100.* The Germantown, Tennessee driver duplicated the feat twice in the Hoosier Hundred in 1991 and 1993.* He showed flashes of brilliance at the most recent one-mile dirt race held in September of 2016 at the Du Quoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds.* He led 55 laps and finished second behind race winner Chris Windom.

Windom leads a list of drivers who’ve yet to pull into victory lane at the Indy Mile.* Most would presume Windom to be the biggest threat to interrupt Swanson’s bid for a fourth-straight race victory.* The Canton, Illinois native, who now resides in St. Louis, ended Swanson’s bid for a third consecutive series title a year ago.* He has proved dominant on the dirt in a Silver Crown car over the past year, winning the last four at Williams Grove, Du Quoin, Eldora and the 2017 season opener at Terre Haute.

Other entered drivers in the group of those who’ve tasted victory, yet are still seeking Hoosier Hundred glory for the first time are A.J. Fike (Galesburg, Ill), Brian Tyler (Pleasant Garden, N.C.) Aaron Pierce (Muncie, Ind.), David Byrne (Shullsburg, Wisc.), Russ Gamester (Peru, Ind.), Shane Cockrum (Benton, Ill.) and Shane Cottle (Kokomo, Ind.).

Greenfield, Indiana’s C.J. Leary pulled off his first Silver Crown triumph in the 2016 season opener at Terre Haute to join his father, Chuck, as the only father and son who’ve both won in the series.* Chuck Leary’s lone Silver Crown win came in the 1997 Hoosier Hundred.* The 21-year-old now hopes to follow in his footsteps 20 years later and become the first son of a former Hoosier Hundred winner to race into victory lane.

Brady Bacon and Justin Grant are two of the most decorated USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car drivers in recent years, but both are eying their initial Silver Crown checkered flag.* Oklahoma’s Bacon, a two-time USAC Sprint champ, qualified for the pole in last year’s Hoosier Hundred and led 25 laps before falling out with clutch issues.*

California’s Grant is the current USAC Sprint point leader with three victories, but Silver Crown win number one for the fifth-place finisher in the 2015 race still eludes him.* Both Grant and Bacon aim to join the list of twelve drivers who have won their first career Champ Car races at the Hoosier Hundred, including Bob Sweikert (1953), Jackie Howerton (1974), Joe Saldana (1976), Billy Engelhart (1978), Chuck Gurney (1982), Steve Chassey (1984), Kenny Jacobs (1987), Gary Hieber (1990), Chuck Leary (1997), Teddy Beach (2005), Shane Hollingsworth (2009) and Shane Hmiel (2010).

A pair of Gardners from the West Coast lead the rookie contingent.* Five-time USAC/CRA Sprint Car champion Damion Gardner of Concord, California will make his Indy Mile debut.* Corona, California’s Ronnie Gardner, unrelated, plans to make his first career Silver Crown start next Thursday.* The four-time USAC Western States Midget champion makes the trek to Indy 50 years after his grandfather, Ronnie Duman, made his final start in the Hoosier Hundred.

SWANSON SEEKS TO ACCOMPANY UNSER AS 2ND TO WIN 4TH-STRAIGHT HOOSIER HUNDRED ON MAY 25

When Kody Swanson lines up on the grid for this year’s 63rd running of the “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, a record once thought untouchable will be just within his grasp.

In September of 1973, Al Unser and the Vel’s Parnelli Jones Racing team captured its fourth consecutive victory in the annual race at the Indy Mile – the only occasion of a driver winning four straight events at one of the three traditional dirt miles the USAC Silver Crown Champ Cars annually compete on.

On Thursday night, May 25, Swanson and the DePalma Motorsports team have an opportunity to join that exclusive club exemplified by brilliant dominance, especially in this modern era in which the equipment and speed throughout the field are so equal.* In fact, Kody has accomplished the three-peat feat in the very same car during his wins in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Regardless of the car or the situation, the versatile 29-year-old Kingsburg, California native is a quick study.* The high school valedictorian and engineer by trade had what he estimates to be the best week of his career last May by winning three out of four races in four straight days on four different tracks in four different types of cars.

Swanson followed up his third-straight Hoosier Hundred win with a second-place run behind his brother Tanner in the Carb Night Classic Silver Crown race at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.* One night later, Swanson claimed the largest payday of his career, spinning and winning at the Little 500 Sprint Car event at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.* For his encore performance on Sunday, he proceeded to Fremont, Ohio and collected a BOSS Sprint Car win.

With performances as such, one might believe Swanson would be riding high on a wave of confidence coming into this year’s “Week of Indy.”* Yet, Swanson remains grounded, humble and as hungry as he ever, never letting his laundry list of accomplishments in recent years cloud his mind when he believes he still has much to prove to others and to himself.

“I don't know that having won three in a row is really a factor in feeling confidence or pressure for me,” Swanson believes. *“I always feel pressure to perform in Silver Crown races and I don't exactly overflow with confidence anyway.* I do think that when we go to the track, we've got a chance to win.* That's about all you can ask for.”

On paper, it appears each of the last three Hoosier Hundred races have played out in a similar manner.* In 2014, Swanson overtook Bobby East on lap 78 of the 100-lapper.* In 2015, Swanson passed A.J. Fike on lap 68 en route to victory and, last year, it was a single lap sooner on circuit 67 when he made his way past Shane Cottle to take the point and the eventual victory.*

From the outside, one would believe Swanson has a tried-and-true plan of attack that he adheres to - managing his tires and biding his time for the first three-quarters of the 100-miler, then striking like a viper in the night during the final quarter before driving away to another victory.* Swanson sees it differently, however, as a race of opportunity.

“Each race has played out a little differently and I have tried to just keep working my way to the front,” Swanson explains.* “Opportunities are hard to come by in these races, so you've got to take them when you get the chance.”

For three years running, Swanson hasn’t missed many opportunities at the Hoosier Hundred.* Though the lap number when Swanson gets to the front of the field may vary from one race to another, one cannot deny that he puts himself in position to win due to his analytical, detail-oriented approach to the 100-lappers.

Nonetheless, one essential element that must not be forgotten is the team that surrounds him.* The DePalma Motorsports team and legendary crew chief Bob Hampshire had to be talked into running for a title by Swanson just three years ago.* Three owners’ championships later, the Lima, Ohio based team has certainly reaped the rewards of teaming up with Swanson, who has earned 12 of his 15 career series wins for the DePalmas to climb the charts to a tie for fourth on the series’ all-time list with J.J. Yeley.

Remarkable Car Set to Make History Thursday at Hoosier Hundred

(Indianapolis May 20, 2017)-Much is and has been written about racing drivers and their exploits over the last century plus. However, journalists and historians alike sometimes overlook the other tangibles that help winning drivers get into victory lane. In horse racing it is the mount that gets the lion’s share of the publicity and sometimes the jockey, no matter how successful takes second stage. In auto racing the driver gets the biggest share of the attention while the mount that takes him to victory lane sometimes takes a backseat.
While Kody Swanson is getting attention for his shot at tying Al Unser’s remarkable record of winning four consecutive Hoosier Hundred races at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, overlooked perhaps is the possibility that his mount, a Maxim chassis also has a shot at history.
When Swanson joined forces with Bob Hampshire and Ralph DePalma in 2014 the team prepared a black framed Maxim (headquartered in Springfield, Illinois) chassis complete with snow white body panels and the familiar red number 63 for the Kingsburg, California driver. Legendary Jack Hewitt, a three-time winner of the Hoosier Hundred, piloted a similarly painted Stanton Chassis during the mid-80’s for Hampshire winning two Silver Crown titles in the process and nearly all of the events on the 1986 schedule.
The team clicked immediately with Swanson winning at Terre Haute and the Indy Mile among their 5 victories in 2014, with three more wins on the clay coming in 2015 and Swanson’s second consecutive Silver Crown title to boot. Last season the Maxim carried Kody to his third consecutive Hoosier Hundred victory. Together the pair have 9 Silver Crown victories on the dirt.
Which car are they chasing one might ask? None other than a 1969 Grant King creation that carried two of the most iconic paint schemes in auto racing. This car made its debut with the newly formed (for 1969) Vel’s-Parnelli Jones Racing Team at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in August with Al Unser at the wheel. Two weeks later the pair won their first 100-mile dirt race at DuQuoin and followed that up with another 100-mile victory at Sacramento.
Getting a dark blue coat of paint over the winter with lightning bolt trim, the now “Johnny Lightning” dirt car was unbeatable in 1970 winning all 5 of the dirt races including the September Hoosier Hundred. Carrying the number 1 in 1971 the car was entered only twice on the dirt but won the Hoosier Hundred again.
Sporting a roll cage and the red and white Viceroy colors for 1973 Al Unser and the dirt car won Springfield and the Hoosier Hundred to capture the 1972 Silver Crown title. Racing against a newer sister car piloted by Mario Andretti, the car won its fourth consecutive Hoosier Hundred in 1973. The car won at Syracuse in July of 1974 but was badly damaged in an accident at Sedalia in August. It returned for DuQuoin and nearly won a fifth consecutive Hoosier Hundred in September finishing a close second to Jackie Howerton.
The 1974 Hoosier Hundred was the car’s last race. It was taken off the track and kept in the same condition over the years and has been parked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum as part of the Parnelli Jones collection, pockmarks and all. In 20 starts over six seasons the 1969 Grant King built car won 12 times.

HOOSIER STATE DIRT / PAVEMENT DOUBLEHEADER AWAITS SILVER CROWN DRIVERS THURS.-FRI.

What makes the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series so fascinating is its diversity. The 11-race schedule alternates throughout the season at venues ranging from dirt tracks located on the nation’s state fairgrounds with classic covered grandstands to paved surfaces that offer luxury suites and skyboxes.

On the track, a Silver Crown series title requires a driver to be readily adaptable to changing conditions and environments during a single 100-lap race, let alone a full season.

There are those who run for a championship, then there are dirt specialists and pavement specialists. In each race, drivers with those attributes will overlap as they compete for supremacy of that particular track on that particular night.

Both skill sets will be on display this week when the series goes back-to-back in a Hoosier state dirt/pavement doubleheader at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis on Thursday, May 25 and Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana on Friday, May 26, marking just the fifth time the series will have raced on both surfaces in a span of two nights.

First up is Thursday night’s 63rd running of the “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Kingsburg, California’s Kody Swanson has won the last three at the Indy Mile and, with another victory this week, would equal Al Unser (1970-73) as the only other driver to win four straight Hoosier Hundreds.

Swanson is among four past winning drivers entered in the 40-car field, including three-time winner Dave Darland (1995, 1996 & 2004) and two-time winners Jeff Swindell (1991 & 1993) and Jerry Coons, Jr. (2011 & 2012).

Chris Windom of Canton, Illinois has been the dirt dominator in the series since the conclusion of last year’s Hoosier Hundred in which he ran an impressive fifth after his original ride suffered mechanical woes earlier in the evening. Since last May, Windom has reeled off a quadruplet of victories at Pennsylvania’s Williams Grove Speedway, the Du Quoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds, Ohio’s Eldora Speedway and the 2017 season opener at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track.

Coming into Friday night’s Carb Night Classic, the Swanson brothers stand on a pedestal that competitors have been taking shots at for the last several years, to no avail. Kody and Tanner have an unrelenting stranglehold on Lucas Oil Raceway’s victory lane that has continued for much of the past decade. Tanner has won five and the opportunity to surpass Mike Bliss as the winningest Silver Crown driver at Lucas Oil Raceway lies in wait on the horizon. Yet, older brother Kody was the victor the last time out at the .686-mile oval in July of 2016, getting the upper hand on Tanner who ran second.

Bobby Santos of Franklin, Massachusetts won the pavement season-opener at Phoenix Raceway in April and led the first 80 laps of the Carb Night Classic in 2016 before his engine let go. Santos, a three-time Silver Crown winner at LOR - in addition to three Sprint Car wins and a single Midget victory, will be joined by Shullsburg, Wisconsin’s David Byrne - a last lap, last corner winner in July of 2014.

Pit gates open at noon for the Hoosier Hundred while spectator gates are unlocked at 3. Cars are scheduled to begin on-track activity at 5pm.

Carb Night Classic pit gates open at noon while front gates open at 2:45pm with cars on track at 4pm for practice.

Terry Babb is the latest to enter his name into the field for this Thursday’s “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

The 63rd running of the legendary race in Indianapolis on May 25 featuring the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series presented by TRAXXAS now anticipates a field of 40 entrants for the event, which would mark the first time 40-plus drivers were entered for a Hoosier Hundred, or a Silver Crown race in general, since 2005.

Babb, a veteran of all three of USAC’s national divisions, has made two career Hoosier Hundred starts.* His first came as a rookie in 1999, then made his return in last year’s edition after a 17-year absence.

Babb will be joined by three-time winners Dave Darland (1995, 1996 & 2004) of Lincoln, Indiana and Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, California.* Swanson, who leads the current Silver Crown standings, has won the past three Hoosier Hundreds and, with a victory, would join Al Unser as just the second driver to win four-straight on the Indy Mile.

Greenfield, Indiana’s C.J. Leary won the 2016 season-opening “Sumar Classic” Silver Crown event at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track.* He hopes to join his father Chuck, who won the race back in 1997, as the first second-generation winner of the Hoosier Hundred.

The first live broadcast of the week begins with Wednesday’s 47th Annual “Tony Hulman Classic” at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track.* Watch as Robert Ballou goes for an unprecedented third “Hulman” victory in a row as the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars return to the half-mile dirt oval at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds.

One night later, on Thursday, a field of 40 drivers make the trek to the one-mile Indiana State Fairgrounds for the 63rd running of the “Hoosier Hundred.”* In what will be the largest USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series presented by TRAXXAS field in more than a decade, Kody Swanson attempts to equal Al Unser’s long-standing record of four consecutive wins in the famed race.

Wednesday night’s broadcast begins with hot laps at 6:30pm while Thursday’s show gets underway at 5pm.

Tony Hulman Classic Rained Out

Hoosier Hundred & Carb Night Still On For Thursday/Friday
(Terre Haute, IN) The first of three nights of racing for USAC’s “The Week Of Indy” has been postponed due to steady rainfall in Western Indiana. The Tony Hulman Classic was set to bring in 30+ USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars and the Scott’s Custom Colors UMP Modifieds. The event will be rescheduled. Two dates are being considered and officials are checking to confirm which one will be best. The new date will likely be released at the Hoosier Hundred on Thursday. The “Week Of Indy” will now get underway on Thursday, May 25 with the Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, which has a much improved forecast.

With the postponement of the Tony Hulman Classic, fans, teams, and drivers will start making the trek an hour to the east for Thursday’s Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, IN. The event will feature the USAC Silver Crown Champ Cars presented by Traxxas. Also racing will be the Mid-American Stock Car Series. The event is rich in tradition and this year’s field is expected to be in upwards of 40 cars for the 100-lap event.

The weather forecast for Thursday has shown great improvement with any chances for rain ending in the early morning hours. The track at the Indiana State Fairgrounds holds up well with wet weather as proved last year when a two hour downpour came through at noon on raceday. USAC Silver Crown hotlaps will be first on track at 5:00 with their qualifying session around 6:15. The Mid-American Stock Car Series will run their feature shortly after 7:00 and the USAC Silver Crown Series Hoosier Hundred will take the green around 8:00 PM.

Also still on schedule for this week is the Carb Night Classic on Friday, May 26th at Lucas Oil Raceway. On track will be the USAC Silver Crown Series for a 100-lap event. A solid field of cars is expected. The Mid-American Stock Car Series will also be making their return to the Brownsburg, IN oval. Mid-American practice will begin at 3:15, Silver Crown at 4:00, Champ Car qualifying at 5:30, Mid-American Stock car feature at 6:30, and the Carb Night Classic for the Champ Cars will go green at 8:00 PM.

Young County Music Phenom To Sing Anthem At Hoosier Hundred
Terre Haute Teenager Making Waves As Performer

An event with the stature and rich history such as the Hoosier Hundred, will bring out the stars. From drivers, car owners, and fans, many familiar faces make the annual trip to the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center for one of the biggest short track races in the country. This year, a highly popular young man from Terre Haute, IN will be performing the National Anthem, moments before the race takes its 63rd opening green flag.

Dylan Schneider, a 17-year old singer/songwriter, has been making waves on the Country music scene, over the past year. Schneider self-released his debut extended play, Wannabe in August of last year. Schneider has been labeled by Billboard as "Country Music's Next Rising Star" and has landed two EPs in the top 20 in a year without a label to support them. Most impressively, Schneider's recent release, Spotlight's On You, which was released in April, hit #1 on the ITunes Country Charts.

The Hoosier Hundred boasts an impressive prerace that leads dramatically up to the green flag of the race event. Thursday activity begins with USAC Racing Silver Crown hotlaps on track at 5:00 for practice with their qualifying session around 6:15. The Mid-American Stock Car Series will run their feature shortly after 7:00 and the USAC Silver Crown Series Hoosier Hundred will take the green around 8:00 PM. Pre-race ceremonies begin around 7:30, which will include awards, driver introduction, taps, singing of God Bless America, and Schneider's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

Tickets for the 63rd running of the event can be purchased at the gates, starting at 3:00 on Thursday, when the grandstands open. Cost will be $30 at the gate for adults and $10 for children. The Week Of Indy events then conclude on Friday, May 26 at Lucas Oil Raceway, where the USAC Silver Crown Series and Mid-American Stock Car Series will again be in action.
