LEXINGTON, KY -- The sixth points race of the 2005 racing season for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts is set to take place this Saturday Night, May 14 at the Soggy Bottom Speedway in Morgantown, KY. Heading into the event, a mere 60 points separates series leader Whitney McQueary from fourth place Chris Combs.
It will be the fifth ever appearance for Kentucky's premier Dirt Late Model sanctioning body at the Mack & Lesa Gabbard promoted facility which opened in 1989. In four previous O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series visits, Johnny Wheeler has two wins with Aaron Hatton and Victor Lee each claiming one victory. Also on the race card for the first time this season will be the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series.
There will be a complete race program for the BoB drivers with Racing Optics Time Trials, VP Fuels Makin' Power Heat Races, B-Mains and the O'Reilly Auto Parts A-Main. The Late Model feature will pay $3000 to win and the Modified feature will pay $1500 to win.
After five O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series events thus far in 2005, five different drivers have graced victory lane, four of which have been first-time winners. Rick Combs took the season opening Spring 50 Tune-Up at Florence Speedway with Dan Schlieper winning the following night's Spring 50. Scott James collected his fourth win with the series at Paducah Int'l Raceway while Shannon Babb and Whitney McQueary each garnered their first victories at Bluegrass Speedway and 201 Speedway respectively.
Going into Soggy Bottom, Whitney McQueary leads the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series standings with 890 points followed by Mike Jewell with 870 points, Michael England with 860 points, Chris Combs with 830 points, and Tim Tungate with 750 points. Chris Combs leads Rick Combs, Wayne Chinn, Frankie Coomer, and Blake Chinn in the Rookie of the Year point standings.
