The largest car count so far this season at any of the ULMA-affiliated tracks was on hand at Wheatland, Missouri last Saturday night. Tommy Cordray of Browning, Missouri handed the rest of the drivers their backsides with a convincing win after starting eighth on the grid. There were 22 member drivers present among the 27 drivers on hand. It took three heat races to sort out the night’s feature event starting grid. Jeremy Kelley, Bob Test, and Danny Lorton each grabbed victories in the preliminary heat races. For the main event, Kelley and Jason Bodenhamer lined up on row one with Kelley grabbing the early lead after a complete re-start for a multiple-car spin in turn one. It did not take long for Cordray to show his strength as he quickly advanced to third by lap eight as the field went caution-free the rest of the way. Brett Wood held strong in the second position and kept Kelly in his sights for most of the race distance. On lap twelve, with heavy lapped traffic and fierce battles for just about every spot throughout the field, Wood grabbed the lead away from Kelley and held the lead for a couple laps before Kelley fought his way back to the front. Kelley’s bid for the win did not last long however, as Cordray was just too strong as he put the winning pass on the leader on lap eighteen and cruised to the finish for his second main-event triumph of the year. Kelley placed second, Bodenhamer third, Wood fourth, and Lorton fifth. Racing resumes at Lucas Oil Speedway this Saturday, June 26 as another strong field of competitors is expected to face off at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks. The speedway recently announced it has added an additional weekly championship series race night to the schedule, which will take place on Thursday, July 1; log onto the speedway’s official website at www.lucasoilspeedway.com for details regarding the remaining 2010 season at Lucas Oil Speedway.

Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri hosted another week of competition last Friday night with fifteen late model competitors on hand; nine members represented ULMA throughout the night’s action. Bob Test a strong finish as he came away with second place in the main event. Trace Westling again rung the bell for another top tier finish in third as Robbie Wright came home in fourth. Walt Imhoff made a rare 2010 start and came away with fifth place in the final feature event rundown. Rookie of the Year candidate Ashlee Lancaster had missed several ULMA events but came back strong last week with an excellent run to finish sixth, just ahead of Chris Cox and Ezekiel Langley in seventh and eighth positions respectively. Cliff Powell also finished inside of the top ten in the tenth spot. Racing continues at Callaway this Friday night June 25, log onto www.callawayraceways.com for complete race information and schedule details.

Same-day rainstorms forced cancellation of the racing action at Warrensburg, Missouri’s Central Missouri Speedway. Racing is scheduled to resume this Saturday, June 26 as several drivers are expected to compete with only one week remaining before the two-day track special event on Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3, when there will be $1,500 up for grabs to the winner of the special 30-lap feature event. Event information and special event race entries may be found at www.ulmaracing.com and www.centralmissourispeedway.net. The speedway has waived its registration fee for the entire Independence Day weekend and extended the date to save on entries to Wednesday, June 30.
