Contact Elliot Davis at channel 2 news on behalf of your friend..
He loves this type of consumer rip off. He has already taken on
a couple of towing companies in the st. Louis area and has torn
them a new butt hole..

Before you call Elliott Davis though make sure you have the full story because many people call only because they are ticked off about being towed when it a police call and not AAA or something. A few of the companies he did profile were charging over $1,000 in St. Louis. Around here, police departments set the rates so they are on file. I would say call the police department if you really feel there is a grievance.

True Michelle..coming from a former tow operator..better check..or youll get chewed a new bunghole sorta to speak. Some police define police calls and tows as emergency related incidents..therefore..said officer calls said tow comapny for said tow. Might have had problems(no keys..wheels crooked..flat tire..ect) and those add to the charges of the tow. Just need to do some checking before pushing the issue with the tow company...because it can backfire too. JMO

My sponsor is Mac's towing out of Granite city, he will tow u anywhere in town for $25.00, will go out of town for a lttle more that is understandable but is fair and cheep!!

Here are the facts>> Mr Lamb broke down somtime after midnight on Fri.( makes it early SAT. morn ) His alt. went out on him. He WAS able to get it safley OFF the road.Day light he comes back for it. It was gone!! He found out were it was.Called them. They said they could not under stand him and hung up!! By 11:30 am SAT. morning he had me calling them. The ticket sais it was an abandend vehical. They drove 4.1 miles EXACTLEY to the vehical. They did Not have the keys. They drug it on to the flat bed truck.Took it back 4.1 miles Dropped it inside their storage lot.Charged him $125.** for the tow and $20.** on starage.I picked it up Mon. for him.$185.** Exactley. It was NOT an emerg. Just an abandend vehical call.I have all the FACTS on paper. When I asked the lady there about why they was rapeing folks so bad.She just laughed and told me they was the cheapist in the area. Most are up to $200.** on any police call.

Here in Salem, my wife slid during the snow. Her car ended in a ditch, the tow company charged her $75 to pull the car 10 feet out of the ditch and she drove the car home. Thinking I should start a tow company around here for the prices they charge.

This sounds a little on the expensive side. Your friend should contact the IL State Police. Every year each tow company on there towing rotation must file a form showing the price they charge. I am sure Lincoln Trail tows for the state police. If it does not match up with the paper they filled out in the beginning of the year they will investigate it. They do a real good job of policing this. As far as the other fellow $75 is not totally out of line. It sounds expensive but when you factor in fuel, insurance, and price of equipment you just can't tow for the $25 the other guy mentioned. That company is actually doing more damage to the industry than the few idiots that are over charging.

bolo..i understand your side..ok..but..since they were called by the police..to tow the car..its considered a tow call(official term. Meaning..an officer..spotted this vehicle..considered it in harms way(want to dispute that claim..officer is on the tow sheet..get ahold of him) and they removed said vehicle. They didnt have the keys..there is 1 problem. Its called a charge..and every tow company has one. Anything that makes it inconvenient to tow a vehicle..has a charge. they are all alike..check around. Just..dont chew a tow company out for an officer making a decision to tow the vehicle..because that is what you are doing. They charged him a police call tow(which..is higher..after hours most of the time..emergency..ect) and like awesome21 said...they have to make up for the ridiculous insurance and fuel fees somewhere.

bolo, I think awesome 21 makes some good points. I think everyone has heard stories about police departments and towing companies being in cahoots but that usually insn't true. However, there is always a few bad apples, police and towing companies, that make all of them look bad. Was it a state, county or city police that had your friends vehicle towed? Most departments keep a list of towing companies to call on a rotation basis. I would contact the police that had your friend's vehicle towed and find out if this policy was followed. If something sounds suspicious, you should ask for this list of towing companies they use and contact each of them to find out how much each of them would have charged. Don't let them tell you that they called that towing company because they were only 4.1 miles away because with the call being after working hours the towing operator had to leave his house and go to the shop unless he lives next door to the shop, maybe he does. I hope you are able to get some answers.

I just saw these last replies. I havnt tried to contact the police yet. BUT' I think you may have a point? It is worth checking into. I will let you know what happens??
Thanks
